On May 14, 1994, George Lucas celebrated his 50th birthday and invited longtime friends and colleagues. Captured on a photo was a group of filmmakers known as the "Movie brats". As younglings shaped by the films of the old studio system, some were part of the more free-spirited New Hollywood wave and effectively brought it down by kicking off the ensuing Blockbuster era. All of them played an important part in at least one of those movements.

In your opinion, which of these directors is the most influential on American cinema?

Thank you to urbanemovies for coming up with the idea!

I love the title and the introduction for this poll suggestion dedicated to George Lucas' Legendary 50th Birthday Party May 14, 1994. Plus, the Youngling reference was a nice turn of phrase that both invoked 'Star Wars' and the "New Hollywood" generation at the same time. Well done, albstein.

I just realized the 25th anniversary of this 50th birthday photograph is this year. Not so surprisingly it coincides with George Lucas' 75th birthday which is also fast approaching too.
