Much of the fun of Oscar night is rooting for specific nominees and watching to see if your favorites win. How do you choose which nominees to give your cheers? Of the following statements, with which do you identify the most?

I tried to edit the post to add the link and got a message that I couldn't, so until I figure out how to do that, here's the list: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls031339895/?publish=save#1

I want Casey Affleck to win the Oscar. That would be a major upset if he didn't.

I know it's a two-man race between him and Denzel Washington, but now that I saw "Fences", I wish Affleck wins. Washington was good, but the whole movie consisted on one monologue after another, he displays so many ranges of emotions that there comes a point where it goes beyond realism, it's like everything is written in order to show how great an actor he is. Well he's one hell of an actor, a legend, but talk about overkill.

Affleck's performance was labeled as 'nuanced and subdued', it's better than that, you don't even realize the guy is acting, many times over the film, he makes a pause before answering, he doesn't know what to say, how to react, he's confused and creates awkward situations, while Washington knows exactly what to say at the right time, yes, it's part of the character, but you can feel there's a whole screenplay behind it. With Affleck, you don't feel the screenplay.

"La La Land" will sweep the Oscars but if "Manchester" gets "Best Actor" and "Best Original Screenplay", I'd be happy. Michelle Williams would be the icing on the cake, but I guess it belongs to Viola Davis, she was great, but she was not a supporting actress. Michelle Williams made a powerful impact with less than ten minutes of screentime, that's the mark  of great supporting performances; less time but more impact.

For me it's probably a combination of those factors, but mostly I want the best work to win (#1), although I rarely see all the nominated films.

It's usually a combination for me, too, with #1 having a slight edge.

I tend to route for what is considered the best work for the year. I generally do not see Oscar nominees until after the Academy Awards.

Ruby, I want to talk to you personally...but your name isn't on the email distribution list. How can we connect?
