Live Poll: Yes, That's My Name!

You may have heard of Norma Jean Baker and know that Cary Grant was born Archibald Alexander Leach... anyway, you know that many (if not most) actors and actresses resort to false names in order to sound more glamorous or because their birth names didn't have the same appeal as their public image (or maybe to keep on some privacy).

But these celebrities were actually born to be stars given the catchy or cool-sounding names they already had at birth, they didn't even have to change or shorten the first name or use its nickname equivalent or the middle name instead of it.

So, which of these celebrities' names that didn't need to be altered sounds the coolest?

16. David Hasselhoff
I always liked his last name

I would be willing to bet that is an Americanized version from the German, "Von Hasselhoff"

I think it's pretty cool that a singer with a diamond voice like Neil Diamond was actually born with this name.

ElM, have you considered Nikolay's and Cliff's suggestions?

Well, I'm not sure about many of their suggestions... to be honest...

I didn't mean "weird or obscure names that are actually real" but names that had that "star/ glamour/ catchy" quality or that sound so unique they've became like brandnames (there's only one Arnold, Marlon, Elvis or Marilyn...) so the stars have got to be famous, worldwide celebrities.

I can add Forest Whitaker but I don't know what's so exceptional in that name (no disrespect meant) and I was ready to add Sean Bean but he was actually born "Shawn" Bean.

I fixed the typo.

In some cases I'm not sure if the names are special or it just seems that way now.

Michael Jackson is an example of a very common name of a person who just became insanely famous.

That's exactly my point, and you're right, it could apply to any name. But as common as Michael Jackson was, the name sounds pretty cool, I don't know it's the juxtaposition of a cool sounding first name with a cool sounding last name, it's not like Jerry Jackson or Aloysius Jackson :)

I wanted to keep that list short because there weren't many celebrities fitting my description, in fact, if you think some should be removed, just tell me, I'd probably agree with you (except maybe for the Top 10)

It's Alois for Arnold's name, not Anois.

I'm kinda surprised that Elvis is his given name, lol!  I suggest Dwayne Johnson; from what I've seen that's his real name.
