Preventing the same item being allowed more than once on a list

i don't think that a character, person, title etc... should be able to be listed more than once. perhaps giving a message that it is already on your list if you've by chance forgotten. as an example i think GiantBomb does a good job at it.

Some people do find it useful being able to add the same film to a list - if they are indexing their collections they want two entries for VHS and DVD, for example. If you add a film from its page you'll see if it is already in a list.

Its nice to be able to add an item multiple times, but I would like a check for duplicates option or something to prevent me from doubling up on most lists.

I also ran into thus problem--the UI is a bit slow/buggy in letting you add items to your resume, so often several dupes will come up (since you've hit it a few times). There might be a better way overall to input each item from a UX perspective.
