Profile page on Google Chrome

Regarding my profile page when using the Google Chrome browser. A problem started a few weeks ago. At first the page was showing a 'not secure' warning in the URL box, but this soon disappeared, but since then an odd problem is occurring. I use my profile page as my homepage, and if I click a link from my profile page and then click back to what would usually be a static page that doesn't need to refreshed, now it takes a long time to load the page. And also if you click and hold the back button the profile page is duplicated several times (See here in the top left of picture).

This is making it very irritating and slow to use this page, as every time I click back to my profile it takes a long time to load and their are duplicate pages. I don't think this is a problem with the Chrome browser, as it's not duplicated on other browsers and there are no similar problems at all with other websites. Something has changed with the way IMDb codes the page or something. Why do these profiles take so long to load also? I have a fast connection and laptop, so that isn't the problem. Is anyone reading who uses the Chrome browser having the same problem? And can anyone from IMDb explain why this is happening?

@Steven Arnold
I use Chrome (63) on both a Chromebook and a Windows 10 environment and haven't had any such problem (although Firefox had been doing something similar on Windows 10, but is fine now).

Do you use any scripts/extensions/add-ons? Have you tried disabling all of them and see what happens?

Also try incognito mode to see what happens. You'll need to log in again, since by design, incognito doesn't remember things.

I'm really just echoing advice found here:
https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/general-information/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-brow...#
but the title of the page is about display problems, which is not what you might have searched for.

Is it only your own profile page that creates multiple entries in your browsing history? Maybe try mine:

I found your profile page and when I access it, it does take considerably longer to load than my own, with a long delay before it starts painting the page. You have many more badges that I do, and you have a lengthy list of film links as your description (I have a link to one list in mine.) For IMDb folks, St-Ar's Profile:

Thanks, bderoes for your detailed reply. Much appreciated. You provide some useful info, I'm going to try and slim down my profile, the reason I keep so many film links is because I keep a notepad document on all the films I watch, so I can look up the last time I watched a movie.

The was no similar problem with your profile, which loaded and was easy to click back to without reloading. I suppose one major difference is I'm logged in to my own page, so it's not read only like yours. I'm also using the same version of Chrome as you, but with a Windows 7 system.

But this problem only started from around Christmas, like I said a 'not secure' written in red appeared in the URL box, and this problem started straight after this. It never occured before this and my profile was the same. So I've got to assume something has changed with IMDb, or the way they code the profile pages. Does any admins read this and have any insight on this issue? Seems rare to get any response from staff on these pages.

When we look at our own Profile page, it is read only. You have to select various editing features to be read/write. Being on your own page means you get a few extra links. Shouldn't be much overhead. Try logging out and loading your own page.

I think anyone who was on the site at the right (wrong?) time saw the "not secure" warning. As you say, it didn't persist.

I would guess it's all those linked titles in your personal description that slow down the loading of your page, although your number of badges is impressive.

I wonder if the "In Progress" status on this thread means anything. I posted a problem 15 minutes ago, and it doesn't say that yet.

[Edit begins here.] Or maybe my first reply created that "status." This website is not really made for the problem-reporting application.

Hi Steven,

I've reviewed your User Activity page, and agree with bderoes's suggestion that the long load time may be caused by the multiple title page links listed in your description/bio section.

If you've been using this section as a way to keep and manage a specific list of titles, I recommend instead adding these titles to a list. You can find more information about lists on our Help site here, including instructions on how to update your list's privacy settings in order to share the list with others if you'd like.

Once you've added the titles to a list, you can update your description via your preferences here

Let us know if this helps improve the loading time for your activity page, or if we can offer any further assistance.

Thanks!
Claire

Actually, the number of badges is also a big delay.

See how this page loads:
