I have updated my son Chase Anderson's profile photo and all is good there.  However when I click on his name that's linked to the page that shows all his lifetime stats, there is a very old profile picture on there.  When I click on it to upload a new picture, I'm able to browse and select the file and click upload but the upload never happens; it just continues to process and never finish.  I've tried this with a normal-sized picture file and also a very small file and neither one works.  The upload just never happens.

There are two issues here, sorry.   First, image uploads on user activity pages are broken at the moment and there is a ticket open for this.  The problem you are describing matches the issue there. These images appear on user pages and represent regular non-industry users to each other, please see http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?profileavatar

Second, your son's IMDb primary name image is controlled via your IMDbPro subscription and is a different thing than the user activity image. To update your son's photos please visit any IMDbPro page, including https://pro-labs.imdb.com/ and from the "My Page" menu at the top of the page select "Photos" and from there you can upload further images, change the featured images on his page and select a different primary image.  To change the primary image, move your mouse over the existing primary image and click the edit link which will appear; to edit the featured images use the edit link next to the word "Featured"; to upload new photos click on the "Add Image" button at the start of his gallery.

For further information please see http://pro.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?addphoto and also http://pro.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?proguidetalent

Please let us know if you require further assistance.

Looks like it's the profile avatar issue that you've referenced.  I'm able to add photos and change his primary photo on the regular IMDB profile/account so that's not an issue.  Wonder when the user page photo issue will be corrected... Thanks for the info!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled IMDb profile picture upload.

Hello! I want to change profile picture but it seems there's an error. I clicked on 'edit' and then chose the picture from my computer and clicked 'upload'. Browser displays 'error' everytime and there's strange path in box (C:\fakepath\...). I tried with Chrome and Microsoft Edge on my PC and with my Android phone browser. I also checked javascript and turned off adblock but it's still an error.

Hi Kristy and Catherine,

We've heard back from our tech teams and this should now be fixed now. User activity image uploads are working again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best,
Kurt

No, the problem is not fixed, or it has returned in a similar way.

This is a problem in your site JavaScript. Your tech team is using an old and now insecure method of uploading files. This is 2017. I see on these boards that the problem with the "fakepath" in profiles dates back at least 2 years:

2 years and no proper fix yet? Really?

Still a problem in April 2018.  I get the "fakepath" message regardless of where I try to upload the picture from.

Hi Drake,

Just to clarify, 'File: C:\fakepath\...' will show in the box regardless of what photo you choose - this simply indicates that a temporary file has been created when you chose your picture via Browse. You should still be able to change your photo by clicking Upload, I just tested this and confirmed the process works via my browser.

If you are not able to change your avatar image, please use a different browser or private window to test whether the problem is due to your browser settings. If you have tried this from multiple browsers and are receiving an error, please write us back with the following:

- the device and OS version you are using
- the browser and update version you are using
- the type of file you are attempting to upload (.jpg, .png, etc)
- the text of the error message you are receiving and the URL of the page where the error message appears

Thanks in advance!

- Steve

The upload failed every time I got the "fakepath" message which I got in both Firefox and Edge on Win 10.  I found out later that I had just gotten an inappropriate message.  The file I was trying to upload was just too small. A 256x256 JPG didn't work, but a larger PNG file did.  The URL of my user page didn't change and the message just said: "Error - Please try again"
