Although, IMDb has adoption as a keyword, the plot summary makes no mention. Wikipedia has a reasonable plot summary that contains a lot of spoilers.

... Roger and Julie return to San Francisco, and while hospitalized there, Julie learns that she will never be able to have children. Roger tries to console her by telling her that he wants to settle down and buy a small town paper, but Julie responds that a baby is all she ever wanted. ...

Two years later, while Roger is working late one night, Applejack encourages Julie to adopt a child, and when Roger returns home, Applejack prods him into agreeing to consider adoption. When Julie writes to the orphanage to request a two-year-old boy with curly hair and blue eyes, Mrs. Oliver, the administrator, interviews the prospective parents and later pays a surprise visit to their home. At first disapproving because the Adams house is a cluttered mess, Mrs. Oliver is charmed by the little nursery and tells Julie that a five-week-old baby girl is available for adoption. When Julie and Roger protest that they wanted a two-year-old boy, the age their own baby would have been, Mrs. Oliver assures them that this is the child for them. The film is a highly manipulative tearjerker.

My ultimate tearjerker about adoption is Any Day Now. Absolutely shattering. The actor who plays the kid, who has Down Syndrome, is A-MAZ-ING.

Why not the original Superman?

Please, do consider: Mother and Child (2009)

Thanks, I did add Mother and Child from the honorable mention list, but I had to cut Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) to make room for it. Even though I had seen it, I had forgotten it was three adoption stories in one movie.

Why is the original Superman (1978) preferable? Only one movie title per franchise. Both, the original and remake, Man of Steel (2013) seem to cover the adoption story equally and were similarly rated. I opted for the newer more relevant version with five times as many votes. I am giving a fair share of slots to less widely seen, highly rated, adoption-centric movies, I need some heavyweights to balance out the answer pool. In the end, they were fairly close and it was a tough decision to choose Man of Steel, as I was leaning toward Superman too.

P.S. I did go the other way choosing Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984) over the newer The Legend of Tarzan (2016).

I go for The Jungle Book (2016)
