I  like Rain Man for it's accuracy and the education of the brother.  I enjoyed What About Bob?  for pure fun and entertainment, and it is not impossible a situation to result.  I absolute abhor all movies where mentally ill are portrayed as the serial killers or other evil doers.  They are not reality, but people believe them and it is sick!

Yes, I also think that can be discriminating. But on the other hand these movies are sometimes suspenseful, so I devide between horror or crime movies that show an discriminating image of mentally ill people. These are for entertainment only and that's how it is. And there are movies that really deal with the problems of mental ill people. Most of them do it with dignity and do not cut the wire between human and human.

Ok, Shutter Island.
But only, because the main character is treated with dignity.

FYC A Beautiful Mind (unless you are deliberately restricting your list to fictional characters.)

FYC Girl, Interrupted - I don't think Susanna (Winona's character's) mental disorder would be described as "extreme" but Angie's and other supporting characters are definitely extreme.

But I just want a predominant non-discriminating Poll. Non-fictional are mostly better in humanity. That's what the main idea was. But if it gets no attention, then... .

Re: Intro

In some movies mental diseases are described by acting.

Sentence is redundant. How would mental disorders or anything else be portrayed in movies, other than by acting?

Some of them are classics, but there are also new points of view when looking at people with psychological or psychiatric mental health problems.

Wordy, "Mental health problems" is inclusive of those other terms.

Some are funny, some look serious - some are serious. Which of these movies would you consider as your favorite? If you don't know any of them, please pick the one you're most interested in. Discuss here.

Suggested Rewrite:

There are a number of movies which portray people suffering from mental disorders. Some are "classics" while others explore new perspectives in their portrayals of people with severe mental health problems. Some are funny, some look serious, some are serious.

Which of these movies featuring characters with severe mental illnesses is your favorite? (If you have not seen any, please pick the one you are the most interested in seeing.)

Thank you, Oswald.
I've taken your rewrite. It is far better than my words. Of course
A Beautiful Mind is an excellent pick for the list.

Breu, thanks for including "A Beautiful Mind" and considering my re-write.

As far as my name and avatar go, I am just childish like that :)
