Listed below are two recognizable movies from the year 1994. There are quite a few differences between the two but the one I am focusing on for this poll is that one is based on a book and the other is not. Well actually I am not; if I am being completely honest with you I wanted enough text to separate the people who actually read these descriptions. I want to know if people are actually reading the texts or are just voting what they like. This is a test from a IMDb poll user, pay no mind to what I wrote below or the question in bold. If you read this vote on option two.
Which movies do you enjoy more movies based on books or original stories?

I really like this one. 'Tough choice, too, because it seems I am so often finding out that more films than I thought are from books. I'm thinking that these two movies might influence the votes and in one direction since 'Shawshank' has been the #1 movie on IMDb for so long and 'Clerks' doesn't crack the top 1,000. I think that, if 'Shawshank' weren't so massively popular, it would be a great representative since it's less known that it's based on a previously penned story than something like 'Harry Potter' but perhaps it's just a bit too popular. I like the idea of it because, with no representative films, #2 would probably win by default so a really well-known and well-liked film is important but maybe this film would mitigate the bias just a bit too much?

This is a really great idea. :)
Though, of all the people who vote option #2, how will you be able to tell how many of them read the description, and how many just answered the question?

Would it be to much to say, "click on the discuss here link and like rocky-o's comment"? Other than that I am not sure what else to do.

I just thought, if the question was a more obvious one like "Which is the better movie?", the majority would probably vote for Shawshank; that way it might be easier to know if they read the intro or not.
The question you have now is such a good one and hard to answer (for most anyway), that people who read it could choose either option.
But I like it as it is, I don't think you need to change anything. :)

But you've got to play fair with your own idea, you've got to have a third option : "I have no preference/ it doesn't matter" (which would be my choice)
And I think a 3rd option would help your poll even more. Generally speaking, the "I don't know" option gets the least votes, so if you put the marginal option with a popular movie and it gets the first or second position, the point will be made as well.
You can pick a picture that is both original and adapted like "The Lion King" for instance.

Thanks for the input; I added The Lion King. Having two popular movies would help distinguish the results.

I would hope people answer the question in bold. People should be able to skip a long intro, look at the question and options and vote.

Can't true stories be from books or called an original movie? I don't know if it has enough footing to be its own option.
