June 6th is National Drive-In Movie Day
and marks the official birthday of the drive-in movie theater. While,
the popularity of the drive-in movie theater peaked in 1958 with 4,063
drive-ins spread across the United States. Only about 400
traditional drive-in movie theaters are currently operating worldwide
with 338 of those located within the United States. However, the future
of outdoor cinema may lie elsewhere. Entrepreneurs are looking to update
the outdoor cinematic experience by using historic landmarks, air-supported domes, and beds to create a fresh spin on the outdoor movie experience and make 'movie night' a special event again.
I am looking to add more outdoor cinema scenes, substitute some more high profile or more memorable drive-in scenes and include some foreign outdoor cinema scenes options. I know there are more options than are listed and don't want to overlook any worthy choices. ANY NOTABLE OMISSIONS OR QUESTIONABLE INCLUSIONS? I AM STILL ADDING/DELETING ANSWER OPTIONS, SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME.

Lots of CGI. The original had none.

No, I meant I think it wouldn't be set in a drive-in movie theater, if the movie is remade and set today. But, I agree CGI would be a big part of the car's transformations in a remake. It seems like Steven King films are coming back in vogue with The Dark Tower
(2017), It (2017) and Pet Sematary (2019), all released in the past three years.

Easy to write in a Drive-In. It would make a great scene too. There are very few left, and some of them show old movies and are an all day event. Classic Cars show up. Whoever plays Christine's owner goes to the show/drive-in event. Christine gets jealous that her owner ogled other cars while there and takes revenge later on those cars.

I like that scene too, very comical. I can't seem to find a decent shot of D.C. trying to catch the surfer on the drive-in screen.

Thanks, I ran across at least dozen full-length horror movies set at a drive-in movie theater. The drive-in set horror seems to be a niche or sub-genre in itself. I likely will dedicate to 2-3 answer slots to the group, especially since the entire film is set at drive-in rather than a single scene. The only drawback of the category, on a whole, is that they tend to be not as well-seen and the lack decent still images. Drive-In Massacre (1976) seems to be a decent poster child for the drive-in horror movie category. I like Dead End Drive-In and Chillerama for the role too.

Thanks, It required a bit of digging, there were fewer scenes than I thought there would be. Plus, quality images were tough to come by as most were from older movies. Still, I get the feeling the list is incomplete.
Thanks, The Lords of Flatbush.(1974) is a great suggestion and find with leads Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler. I found an appropriate drive-in publicity still to pair with it for the poll. ADDED

So far I have more than a few favorites due to thier creative use as a plot point. But my vote for the best crafted scene and most under-rated drive-in theater scene is from The Age of Adaline starring Michiel Huisman, Blake Lively.

A drive-in is a location in Orson Welles' The Other Side of the Wind.

Thanks, good one.
I added The Other Side of the Wind (2018) to the poll suggestion's answer list. It is interesting that the most recent movie with a drive-in scene was shot in the 1970's.

Scene: "Having realized at the party that Otterlake is not going to financially support Hannaford's new film, the two have a mournful last exchange in the drive-in theater, realizing that their friendship is at an end. Intrusive journalist Juliette Riche has asked Hannaford the most explicit questions of all about his sexuality. At this moment, Hannaford violently assaults Riche in anger, while a drunken Billy Boyle mounts an impassioned defense of the director."

I liked that he won the
Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for adapting his own novel for this movie. I wouldn't have given the Best Supporting Actor award to Michael Caine though for this film, i was rooting for Haley Joel Osment in The Sixth Sense.

Urb,
FYI: You may find this interesting. However, it probably doesn't qualify for your poll. Besides, you already have 35 choices in your poll.

The Radiator Springs Drive-In Theatre is a drive-in movie theatre that appears in Cars, its post-credits scene, and Cars 2.
Trivia
- For the first Cars, Pixar did a scene in which Sally Carrera and Lightning McQueen go on a date at the theater to watch a film starring Finn McMissile. (This did not make it to the final movie.) [1]
- The theatre appears in the end post-credits scene in Cars, showing Toy Car Story, Monster Trucks, Inc., and A Bug's Life, references to Toy Story, Monsters, Inc. and A Bug's Life.
- In the post credits scene, when Mack comments on one of the actors from A Bug's Life, he says that they are just using the same guy over and over again. Ironically, Mack is voiced by the same actor that plays the Hamm Truck in Toy Car Story, the Abominable Snowplow in Monster Trucks, Inc., and the P.T. Flea Car in A Bug's Life (this may be an intentional joke put into each movie).
-
The movie theatre during the day.
In Cars 2, the theater is passed by, and the marquee reads The Incredimobiles, a reference to The Incredibles.

Cars
(2006) made the initial list, but I stumbled upon a website
that was a great resource. I doubled the amount of viable options to
well over 35. Cars
(2006)
ended up one of the supplemental and honorable options listed in the
thread. I have based on your feedback moved it back into the answer pool
and bumped
Worlds Apart
aka Enas allos kosmos instead. It also is important
to me to represent some older movies, outdoor non-drive movie scenes, as
well as, drive-in horror genre with a couple options each too. I still
feel like I am missing some notable options, but these are the movies that
were on the cusp of making or not making the answer pool.
