Intro:

Mankind was always seduced by the inaccessability of the moon. There was
a big race for the moon in the 1960s. America and Russia both had the
goal to be the first nation to have sent a man to the moon. But the idea
existed earlier. George Méliès had fantasies about the moon and even Jules Verne. When you look at cinematic moon fantasies in movies or movies about real events, which is your favorite moon movie? Tell me here.

Rules:

It should be a respectable movie about the moon, no series, no animes, but animated movies.

If you are going to mention Jules Verne in your intro, you will need a movie based on his work. From the Earth to the Moon” (1958), https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051638/...

You might want to try something based on H.G. Well’s work too.: First Men in the Moon (1964), https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058100/...

But if you want something that tells the real reason for the space race, you want:

- The Right Stuff (1983) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086197/...

- Space Cowboys (2000), https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0186566/...

Why? The real reason for the space race wasn’t for peaceful scientific space exploration. It was military. They were indeed scared of a military power putting a missile platform in geo-synchronous orbit over a country or cities from which to launch attacks from orbit or from a base on the Moon. They were scared of spy satellites too and used them themselves too.

That's very useful. Thank you, dgranger. :D
I've put in all your suggestions.
I've watched 'Space Cowboys' and 'The Right Stuff', too.
They're great movies.
