In general, Mankiewicz. But considering the actual back-to-back films, I don't really have a horse in the race.
I suggest you make a different question than just favorite. Which pair of films had the most skillful direction...something else. I think we all use "favorite" as the question way too much.

'Good face-off. Under each list, it says that the back-to back Oscars are in red, but they're showing up in black. Since there have been some problems since the new list formats started, I'd suggest using plain type, then putting the consecutive wins in bold. Or if you just forgot to put them in red, do that so this can be run. : )

Also remember that single line breaks are not preserved.

Yes, the back-to back Oscar wins are in red. I doubled checked. Yes, not visibly present, but still there. I noticed the same with the new lists, but all my other color utilized suggestions have converted to polls without issue since the transition.
Thanks, Peter. I usually cover myself with a space after, so it works as a wrap also, I went back and doubled the line breaks, so when it converts it will be more visually appealing.

urbanemovies,
I exported your list and verified that the color formatting tags are present and are correctly coded.

I just noticed that the live poll is only showing one of the titles, per pair of movies, in red. Because you checked the list before it went live, and Dan exported it, I'm assuming that maybe it's the victim of a bug like I had with one of my polls, so I'll let Dan know, but just in case, perhaps it'd be a good idea to check the list once more and make sure there are tags for both movies in each pair. If, by chance, you don't have tags for every movie intended to be in red, just request a re-push. In case it's a bug, though, I'll let Dan know. :)

Ruby and X,
This should work for the first choice in your poll.
Best Director Oscars
1936 The Informer
[red]1941 The Grapes of Wrath.
1942 How Green Was My Valley[/red]
1953 The Quiet Man
* back to back Director Oscars in red
I guessing, the parser for creating the polls.
You may wish to try this and similar formatting for the other two choices, and ask for a re-push.
This should work for your first choice.

yes, we both checked and it theoretically is correct, should work and would work on other systems. Dan's suggestion is another way to go and I would think solve the problem. I have reidone the color breaks to start and stop on each separate line.I will re-push.
