Live Poll: Peaks in Music Movies

Intro:

Some movies really rock the audience. It might be classical music,
musicals, rock, rap, pop, jazz or any other kind of music movie that does a good job. Mostly all of them have a special sequence which gives the movie a highlight. So which of these music movie sequences is your favorite? Discuss here. Special thank you to blackbolt-3 for giving ideas.

Rules:

I better want sequence suggestions from movies 7+/10, but you may convince me. I need a fitting image from the sequence. I need a line for putting it to the image. Pattern like the examples in the list. It should be a music centered movie and the scene should be outstanding within the movie. Any direction of music. Animes or animated only if outstanding and music centered. No documentaries.

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls091450060/

I wish I had a better image for 'Les Miserables'.
I have a problem with writing music titles. Is it like the writing of movie titles? I wrote the titles like I know it from downloads, so I don't know if the titles are written right. And is there a " or a ' at the beginning of the music titles? Thank you for helping. :D

When we're not talking about movie or series titles in poll titles we don't have a strict rule about these things.

AP and other style guides may prefer to only capitalize some words in titles ("We Are the Champions"), but I agree that downloads and album covers in English tend to capitalize all words ("We Are The Champions"), so copying that style seems fine.

But try to be consistent: Capital S in "Singin' In The Rain"

And double check your text: I believe "Sing, Sing, Sing" is by Louis Prima.

Thank you for the explanation. Louis Bega? Which devil might have touched me for that? I got Louis Prima in my 4 wheeled disco. ;D I checked the list and did some corrections. And now I check it again. Maybe you have a suggestion, too? :D

No, sure not. No comparison to Louis Prima. Lou Bega is ok for music at McDonalds or at party events, but the old jazz artists have special qualities still many people get. The old garde is another teritory than Lou Bega, you know? My best Musicians are Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Louis Armstrong, Queen, The Sweet, Run D.M.C, Squackett, Brand X, Sigi Schwab & Percussion Academia, Santana, ...
There are so many high quality musicians in each music genre to like - and I like them all! Try the albums "Rondo A Tre", "Live Within A Day", or "A History Of Brand X" - music that elevates you to inner regions you don't know. Except you know the albums. ;D

The dance from Swing Kids truly is a classic.

By the way, for the Wizard of Oz entry, the character's name is Tin Man, not Metal Man.
And speaking of it, aren't there more memorable songs from that film (although, I agree it's debatable). For example, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, or maybe We're Off to See the Wizard surely are more famous, no?

Debateable, yes. :D Please give me the link on IMDb of a defining image of that sequence, so I can put it to the list and please - also a little line. It should be debated. There should be only one sequence of each mentioned movie on the list. Which one is to cut out can be decided later.

The exact image for Somewhere Over the Rainbow. That song actually received an Academy Award.

As for the meaning of the song, Dorothy's aunt tells her: ''Find yourself a place where you won't get into any trouble''. Dorothy goes out, and tells her dog: ''Some place where there isn't any trouble... do you suppose there is such a place, Toto? There must be! It's not a place you can get to by a boat, or a train. It's far, far away. Behind the moon, beyond the rain...''
then she starts singing about ''Somewhere, over the rainbow''.

It also signifies Dorothy's innocence and kindness at the beginning of the story, before her adventure begins.
If you decide to use that entry, I could shorten that to a single line.

Ah, good - it's convincing time!
I would like to nominate a musical sequence from Robin Hood: Men in Tights, starring these lovely lads.
Sure, the film is rated only 6.7 on IMDb, but it's a cult classic song.
It pokes fun of how most depictions of Robin Hood have him dressed in green tights - which are now considered feminine. And yet, they sing this song trying to prove how manly they are.

My other suggestion: The Rainbow Connection, sung by Kermit the Frog.

Thank you for suggesting. Same for the Kermit song, which also should be a peak sequence of the movie. Need image, need line. Didn't have 'Men in tights' as a musical on the radar, but ok, since it's tagged as musical and the fact that I really love this movie (have seen it several times), I count it to the list. I'll manage it, except there is no suitable image, but I think yes. ;D

Not a problem, I have a DVD of Men in Tights.
Let me take a good screenshot...
Ah, this one's nice.
I've uploaded it to IMDb. It should appear in Men in Tights gallery in a few days, so if you wish, you can use it for your list. If not, then it's no big deal.

And as for Kermit the Frog's Rainbow Connection, this is an IMDb image from that scene.
As I'm reading it now, the song became quite popular, outside of the film. No wonder, to be honest.

I got the DVD, too. But the copyright laws in my country are that hard, I don't know if I would get nailed. We got lawyers that search for copyright infringements and if they find, they contact the owner for the ok (any movie company). Then they give you the bill for searching for you and telling you to not do again. Each infringement counts a three digits ammount. A very lucrative branch for lawyers.

Well, most of the images on IMDb are uploaded from the users' personal film library, and/or from the internet.
You see, until a few years ago, a regular IMDb user couldn't upload an image to a film's gallery. I'm not sure who could (whether IMDb staff, film studios, or IMDb Pro members), but either way, an average film's gallery on IMDb didn't have a large number of images.
That all changed a few years ago, when IMDb allowed its users to add images.
You can still (sort of) recognize which images came from before, and which came after that major change in IMDb policy, because the 'old' images are mostly listed first, while the 'newer' ones are listed later, but that's not always the case.
Also, most of those 'old' images have a copyright tag, while the newer ones mostly do not.

What I'm trying to say is, it is probable that at least one third of the images in your list came from the users' own library and/or internet (I've counted 13 without a tag). But if IMDb allowed those photos to be uploaded, you don't have anything to fear about you being blamed for copyright infringement, because you only compiled a list out of the stuff that's on IMDb.

Anyway, IMDb accepted the image I uploaded, so if you decide to use it, feel free to do it.

Thank you for encouraging me. German Layers are special greedy about that since they realized it's a cheap way to make big money. The Abmahnanwälte - as we call them - are as popular as hemmorhoids or clamydia in the crowds. And all movies have disclaimers  that tell it isn't allowed to even use single pictures of the discs, etc. I try to find out, if I can count myself as a journalist, when I do polls on IMDb, then it might be another case. I don't know. ;)

But even then I don't know how to gram images from disk. I guess DVD is much more easy to grab. Bluray: I didn't even made myself thoughts about how the works technically.

All in all I don't want to break law and then have to pay for it. So still no images from me. ;)

I guess with that song, many women had a lot of fun at work. I think it was big fun for the singers. They look like they had.

When I was young, the same song was done by Pink Floyd. It sounds a little different, but the content is pretty much similar:

It was a very pleasent idea to put it to the list. I first saw it in the nintees and thought that it is pretty cool. I saw it several times later. Then I had a long time, when it moulded on VHS. With new standards a few years before today I saw it again - and the guitar duel is still up to date. Its a pretty cool movie, underrated. :D

I really like this list, but wonder why these lists get ignored so hard:

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls091386932/
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls097089312/
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls091194626/
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls097159126/
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls041490571/

I think these are pretty good. But I also don't want to arrogate. I think the mods know what to do and why doing it. It also might be a matter of events that take place. Then an apropriate poll should go online. And when the suggestions don't fit to the events - like e.g. Oscars, Globes, etc. - then it's clear not to take unrelated polls. :D

Hi,

Most poll authors make suggestions that are not used, and they don't usually get an explanation why. That's how it has always been.

Timeliness can be important, as you say; sometimes a suggestion becomes more relevant after some time. Originality is also a factor. And of course execution, such as text that is clear and accurate. Sometimes corrections are offered, but you can't always count on that.

In four of these lists I didn't find any sign that they are used before. I one case (International Godfathers of Action) there was a reaction of ED, but my suggestion was different by naming 5 movies that shows the actor as actioner. And with changing to "International" the whole poll idea was changed widely. Please show me examples of polls or poll suggestions for the other 4 examples, I mentioned. I always try to be original as can, when I suggest. :D Details may change a whole idea.

As I said, poll authors do not usually get an explanation why a suggestion is not used. I gave you a general reply. I did not make any claims about your suggestions, and there is not necessarily one specific reason why a suggestion is not used.

If you look at the forum, there are many posts that don't get many replies and many suggestions that don't become polls.

ACT_1: This poll idea is about a peak situation with music in a music movie. If the poll gets online before 'Cats' (2019) starts, I cant take it on the list later, if there is still one option free. But then I need a paek situation with a fitting image and a fitting description line. If you present that and there are still 35 slots free, I'd ask for a re-push, when it's already gone online. But I wouldn't wait, because this one is really good, I think.

Corrected option #4: Put an "it" between make and sound:
make it sound
put the word "sequence" to option #20.

Peter this is an idea I will have to struggle with, if it gets online. That's because there are so many worthy options on the list that I really would have to struggle with the decision of which option I should pick. When people started to vote their options, I'll wait in the background and later pick one of my favorite options which is lower rated. I love most of the options. ;D

Suggested edit for one sentence of the intro:

It might be a musical or a movie centered on rock, jazz, pop, rap, classical music, or any other kind of music that does a good job.

'Changed "music movie" to "music" and changed the syntax a bit.

Last time it was a little rough to get polls online. And I must admit, the weeks before X-Mas, I always have to strugle with a few things. So I got less time and I was a little rare. Special thank you to make it a featured poll. :D Nice! Around the Hollidays I might even be a little more rare, because of the visits. In any case, I wish us all a Merry Christmas. :D And thank you for a year of fun with polls. ;)

I'm not surprised about some older movies didn't get the attention they would deserve. There were quite strong music movies in the 2010s. But that 'Footloose' only has one vote turns me a little sad. Well ok, it is like it is. ;)

Breumaster, maybe just me, but I've found both of those cartoons incredibly sad and dark. It's an oddity, because I could be unhinged though rather severe dramas and horror movies, but things like that and "Happy Tree Friends" (which is vandalized with Suspiria (2018) poster for an unknown reason... Odd) give me that awful feeling.

I guess the reason is tone mismatch, which is actually one of the worst crimes a director can do and something that should only be used sparingly.

Happy tree friends! On a very sick way I had to laugh hard on this animations.
Seems that there are very sarcastic guys around. And I thought my humor is dark! ;)

Breumaster, I feel like there are a lot of variations of black humor around, with logical maximum being the most nihilistic... But it might just be me.

8 Trans-Sylvanians! Cool! Ever liked the show, even though I've voted for a jazz-titled option. ;)
