'P2' takes place on Christmas Eve and I think is better than its rating or Metacritic score. It's certainly memorable and both scary and very Christmas-ey.
Thanks, I like Alexandre Aja's (story) work and will take your recommendation. I don't want to add to the number of Christmas titles (1/3 of total), as I think the holiday is well represented, so I will bump

P2 (2007) always reminded me of Maniac (1980) and considering that Franck Khalfoun actually remade the latter in 2012, I believe it wasn't a coincidence. As far as I remember Maniac is also set if not on Christmas then not far off from it: some dialogs mention it to juxtapose Zito's facade to what's he really doing.

urbanemovies, for some reason I was totally oblivious they're remaking it... again!
It seems a bit soon to me too, since the last re-make was only thirteen years ago; instead of the standard 20-25 year (generation) buffer that is usual between re-makes, this one is being remade in half that time.
Interestingly, the co-writers and director are female, so I suspect a different spin from the first two, Black Christmas (1974) and Black Christmas (2006). Plus, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions are co-producing the latest version, so I suspect it will be better than the last one. Also, the film setting is being relocated to New Zealand so that offer some other ways to differentiate it from the first two.
