Actually this is more of a question than a problem but I really want to know what to do.
Mission Mangal, the upcoming Indian film, is a drama but someone added the sci-fi genre. Then, later I found it was gone [honestly, I have nothing to do with this], and now it's back.
I don't think it qualifies for the sci-fi genre.
Because sci-fi means science FICTION. Unless the film is a work of fiction, I don't think we should mention it that way. Although it's true that this film deals with the Mars orbiter mission, i.e, space, which is a common sci-fi trope, but didn't even First Man do that?
First Man also dealt with space but wasn't classified a sci-fi.
I think historical drama should be a better way of classifying Mission Mangal. It doesn't matter how old the event was, at least it did happen and is now a part of the past. It qualifies more for the history genre [if character names are not changed] than sci-fi.
What do you editors think?

Hi Manish -
As per our Genre guide, "Sci-fi" is subjective and defined as:
Numerous scenes, and/or the entire background for the setting of the narrative, should be based on speculative scientific discoveries or developments, environmental changes, space travel, or life on other planets.
If you feel that the film doesn't fit the above criteria, please request a removal of the genre through our online Update form and our editors will take a look.

This is related to or intertwined with Harshad Chopda's #190709-090554-969000: GS topics "What's wrong?" and "Discussion related to Sci-Fi genre".

Michelle. If it turns out that the inclusion, removal, and reinclusion is the work of Harshad, he needs to be permanently blocked from IMDb. There were several postings that Will handled here is a screenshot of the last.

Mr. Chopda's attitude towards staff needs addressing also. His removal from Get Satisfaction is warranted.

"Based on true events"
The ISRO is a real entity. The Mars Orbiter Mission is real.
This would be like calling the "Zapruder Film" a work of fiction.

Harshad Chopda had some interesting ideas regarding the genre classification of The Dark Knight trilogy, but in the case of Mission Mangal, he is certainly incorrect as far as all available information about a new movie suggests. IMDb considers the science fiction designation to be subjective but not to the degree as some may think. A work has to fit the definition at least to be branded in a particular genre.

Oh, and Manish, it is Historical. Yes. But they are still making it. (History) They just made a movie about how this ongoing project started.

Oh I typed it wrong again. I meant to say that MM too isn't a sci-fi just like First Man isn't even though both films deal with space.

I just wanted you to confirm if you understood what my intentions are. By the above replies to my own reply, I think you felt I'm against your opinion. Because you were telling me things I was already aware of. Man, the very point of starting this section was to oppose the inclusion of sci-fi genre!
If you don't want to reply, that's your problem. But if I'm misunderstood or I feel like I've been misunderstood, won't I want to be assured I'm not?
This wasn't about the discussion but a human clarification, that's all, mate. I get it, maybe I'm still not clear to you and you might not reply, but get it that I'm totally with you on the discussion. My typing errors won't trouble anyone again in future.

It was hard to tell
I also assume you meant Blocked not Locked also.
It's tough to comprehend what you mean when you make typing mistakes.
Cheers

Okay, I have found this article where the film's producer has something to say that clears a lot about the genres.
"The thought was to make an emotional movie about a space mission we’re proud of; something that has human elements, unlike Hollywood films like Gravity (2013), which are more fiction and fantasy."
This is what you can hear from Mr. R. Balki, the film's producer. Read here if you want to: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/hindi/bollywood/news/mission-mangal-is-not-a-woman-centric-film-why-should-i-attempt-to-empower-women-who-are-already-far-superior-to-men/articleshow/70521526.cms
This implies the film is a drama for sure. And being a true story, it shouldn't be listed as sci-fi.
I would suggest the addition of sci-fi genre be locked for this film. Edit wars can indeed get nasty.

And for those that give advice on an illogical assumption, please remember that while the title is locked, that does not stop any contributor from submitting a well thought out argument for a genre removal or inclusion. Locking a title just means that the automatic approval is no longer in play. You gotta prove your change now. Locking a title that has an ongoing edit "War" is the smart thing to do. Saying anything against it is illogical and is bad advice. It does not matter whether or not it is released yet either as suggested. All this lockdown does is stop the database from becoming inaccurate for one or two days or a week or a few hours while the errant submission is reversed.
You were correct to point this out and you are to be praised for bringing it up.

Is it just me or even you see the above comment twice? I didn't post it twice, though. Anyways, thanks everyone for understanding my point.

Locking the addition of new genres, just like it is done for older films.
You try to add the genre, and it gets rejected within seconds. That's how it is done for older films. It can be done for this one too, as the makers have billed this as an emotional film (drama) only. It's the internet that is calling it a sci-fi although it barely qualifies for the genre due to being based on true events and featuring even true characters. The lead actor Akshay Kumar plays Rakesh Dhawan, a real life character and a part of the real mission.
