I have a question concerning the recommendations.
Why are they based on the ratings and the watchlist?
The ratings are clear, but how should I know that I like the movies at my watchlist? ;)
Maybe it would be better to get different recommendations for the lists you have.
I'd rather prefer to get recommendations based on my favorites(-list), not on my watchlist.

My guess is that you've shown interest in something you've placed on your watchlist, or you'd probably not have put it there.

You probably should have listed this as question instead of a suggestion, though. It might get a quicker notice from staff who'd probably have to be the ones to answer it.

If, for instance, I search for an item on Amazon, they'll recommend other items that are related because I've shown interest. I am guessing it's the same theory. If I add a bunch of space travel films to my watchlist, it could be assumed I am looking for more or would be interested to know there are others I missed in my search.

I think what this suggestion means is that the Recommendations Algorithm should be more heavily based on the user's rating history.  Personally, I don't know that I have ever received an IMDB recommendation that was a good one, as they are heavily based on what the system 'thinks' I am interested in (by what I've looked at or is on my watchlist).  Even using the watchlist as a guide should be ranked pretty low in the algorithm, as often I have stuff in my watchlist that once I watch it I find out I really don't like it.  BUT, I've rated over 1000 movies or shows in my account and I am sure that some other people might have similar rankings.  If you based the recommendations primarily off of other users with the most similar movie ratings history, I would think that the recommendations would be helpful.  You could even have a statement something like "A user with 88% percent similar rating history liked this movie"

I agree. I add a lot of random stuff in my watchlist, and I would like the personal recommendations to mirror the ratings more than the watchlist. Even remove the watchlist from the algorithm all together would be best for me in the very least. Maybe a function where one can tick off the two as it suits one's needs.

https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/use-a-graph-database-for-the-ratings is about a way for imdb to give us those recommendations.

totally agree with Sagehorn and Eric, we add lots of movies to our wishlist, but we don't know if we are gonna really like it after seeing it.. would prefer recommendations by ratings.. thank you
