At the beginning of this year Col Needham indicated that the resources necessary to maintain the IMDb daily poll did not generate sufficient page views to justify itself. Conversely, the new quiz game produces more traffic and requires less labor to maintain. As one of the regulars on the IMDb Daily Poll Board, I miss the daily poll. A number other contributors to the IMDb Daily Poll Board and I are willing to provide the labor to reconstitute the board. With the volunteer labor, I believe we could reconstitute the IMDb poll on a weekly or every other week basis. Here are some possible options.

• Revive the IMDb Daily poll software. Provide limited administrative access to volunteer non-IMDb employed trusted agents to create the poll.

• Revive the Facebook version of the Poll. The downside to this option is that only Facebook users would be able to participate in the poll. Likewise, the results of any poll are difficult to find, especially for those who do not subscribe to Facebook.

• Implement the poll feature as part of the IMDb Message Board system. Optionally, restrict creating a poll to the IMDb Daily Poll Board and/or trusted users.

• Conduct the poll using Google Docs software. Here is an example poll:
oo Favorite cameo on Big Bang Theory?
oo Poll
oo Results

• Conduct the polls using Straw Poll.
oo Poll
oo Results.

• Conduct the poll using Survey Monkey.

A link under Community, much like the one for “Quiz Game”, would help to publicize the reconstituted poll.

I think you're about to break the record for idea "likes!"

Did you link to this on the message board? I think TONS of people would be excited to see this idea.

It'd certainly encourage repeat traffic - I also wonder how difficult it'd be to add to the app, the hassle would be getting the data together.

I am surprised at the quizzes being popular, I looked at one and got bored and haven't bothered with one since. It might be they get more total traffic, but that'd be because there are so many of them.

I am curious why you consider this a terrible idea. Is it simply because it distracts from other ideas or do you have specific objections to reconstituting an IMDb poll? If so, would you kindly provide your rationale? What other ideas do you believe the IMDb technical staff should focus on?

Please consider this from the perspective of how IMDb can improve the user experience.

Thank you in advance for providing additional insight into your perspective.

Well, discussion is great, but some reason for you comment would help. It could certainly be added to the to do list without affecting other, greater ideas, don't you think?

Hi there. Regarding the daily poll sometime ago Tsarstepan suggested we should make our own daily polls instead of waiting for the IMDB to bring it back. The idea was accepted but it never became a reality and eventually it got forgotten.
A couple of days ago I tought of a way to make it work, a blog at Blogger, and I started the page yesterday, however before promoting it I would like to have your opinion on the matter.

Here is the address of the blog so you can see how would it work: http://moviesdailypoll.blogspot.mx/

At the left the polls would be featured, and the person who toughht of the poll would be recognized. Blogger has the advantage that you can mark the time when a poll would close so they would jot remain open indefinitely, also it allows to have several polls featured at once so we could open one every couple of days but keep each open for around a week to get enough number of votes.

At the center the entries of the blog would feature the results of the closed polls, which would work as an archive like the one the IMDB used to have and like Facebook would never allow, tags would allow to easily find polls by topic.

At the right we have links to the daily poll board so people can suggest polls here, ideally that would bring new people and more activity to the baord which hopefully would be notes by IMDB administration.
Also we have links to our campaigns to get the poll back at the IMDB, I don't have many hopes that i'll ever return but attrafting some attention to the cause won't hurt.

Aditional Blogger advantages:
while we can't expect to have many visitors at first, if we are patient it will attract people not only from IMDB but from aroudpnd the internet as the polls could pop out in Google searches.

As far as I know there is jo limit to the jumber of options a poll can have, We'll have to confirm this but I know at leats 11 options per poll are possible.

While I opened the blog and I am the current administrator Blogger allows for several people to work on the same blog, so if you have a Google account All of you could join me so we work at this together.

I think this is the best way to have a daily poll even if it never returns to IMDB, I hope you can tell me what you think, and if you find itok we can start promoting it and adding polls. it requires some work and compromise, but I think it's worthy, hope you like the idea.

Help needed: as you may now I'm mexican and english is not my first language, so I'm sure everyone may have notice at one time or another I surely make some mistakes, if someone could review e introductory text at the blog and make sure there are no mistakes It sould be helpful, also you can suggest a different text, the limit is 500 characters.

Let the voting begin, I'll post one poll every two or three days and each one will remain open for a week.

Things to do: First of all vote, second help me promote it. Thanks and let's hope this Works.

It is a pity there has had to be a workaround, but what this does demonstrate is that there is a demand for this. If trusted folks, like DD, are prepared to do all the hard work it has to be worth resurrecting.

I totally support the return of the daily poll. It's been the worst mistake the site has done. My experience in yhe IMDb will never be completely satisfactory without it.
It should be very easy to have a poll on the homepage and to allow people to share it on Facebook (if that's what you care about) bring back the poll.

Hi, I'm pencho15 at the IMDb and I totally support the return of the daily poll, one of my favorite parts of the IMDb and that after a year since you it's been gone is still missed.

With a new look in the IMDb message board implemented this week, what do you think of it. Here are the results:

It has promise, but it still has bugs. - 10 votes, 30.3%
I prefer the current (old by now) message board look. - 8 votes, 24.24%
It has promise, but it removed some useful features. - 6 votes, 18.18%
I have no preference. - 4 votes, 12.12%
I just hope they are not using the update to get rid of message boards, such as the IMDb Daily Poll board. - 3 votes, 9.09%
I have not tried using the new message board system. - 2 votes, 6.06%
I am currently using it and like it a lot. - 0 votes
I do not use the message board on IMDb. - 0 votes

A total of 33 votes were collected.
Current poll: What are your feelings about Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor Who?

It would be very helpful to have a link to the IMDb Users Daily Poll listed under the Community tab.

The Dr Who poll is already going nicely there - one of the most popular yet? You could see how things like that would prove very popular for IMDB - a lot of people have an opinion about casting decisions for well known characters like that (I imagine the announcement of the next Batman and the subsequent poll would prove to be a big hit too). I'm also glad to see the option I voted for was well ahead :)

This must be the fourth or fifth more popular poll so far, and if it manages to keep the current rythm it has a chance of going for number 1.i

As the fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) would say, "Where there is life, there is hope!"

The Peter Capaldi poll is now the top poll, with 174 votes.

The IMDb Poll (http://www.imdb.com/poll/) went live around nine months ago. As of today, 1211 polls have gone live, the majority of which are still open for voting. As of last night, over 2,800,000 votes have been cast by at least 24,900 users.

You can find more information in the IMDb Poll FAQ (http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?poll) and the IMDb Poll message board (http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000088/threads/).

If you are interested in suggesting a poll, please read learn how to create polls on IMDb and post your suggestion with a link to your list on the IMDb Poll message board (http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000088/threads/).

I like your idea. Another idea Dan is why not have a star or check mark listed next to the poll you took once it becomes finalized so that way you don't end up taking the same poll over and over saving time.

Hi brad toney,

The reconstituted IMDb poll has been live for over three years, has over 4,530 live polls, has over 10,800,000 votes and over 4,750 people who have voted in the poll.

I like your idea of including some indication that a user has voted in a poll. In the interim, on the IMDb Poll home page (http://www.imdb.com/poll/), there is this link that allows the user to exclude polls they've cast a vote:
Hide Polls You've Taken

In addition, I maintain a blog with statistics on the polls and lists of the polls sorted various ways, such as:

Polls with the Most Votes (sorted in descending order of votes)
http://mypollwatch.blogspot.com/2013/12/imdb-polls-descending-order-of-votes.html

Polls sorted Alphabetically

This is what I'm talking about. It would definitely help if imdb sorted out this way. I'm up one thousand seven hundred polls I tookand it never seem to rise because I take the same ones. I would put this as a suggestion. It would be easier
