Renumbering episodes - how to avoid clashes

If a TV series already has numbered episodes for a future season, with no exact release dates, what is the best way to change that order once the episodes and their dates start to be announced in listings?

Consider the series

Britain's Most Historic Towns (2018– )

which has the episodes listed 2.1-2.6 with just a year (an incorrect one!) and no exact dates.

The first episode of this series has now appeared in listings, and it's actually the one labelled as 2.6 "Wartime".

Have I handled things in the best way, so as to avoid clashes of numbers?

I've renumbered:

2.6 -> 2.1 (and added precise date)
2.1 -> 2.91 (and changed year to 2019)
2.2 -> 2.92 (and changed year to 2019)
2.3 -> 2.93 (and changed year to 2019)
2.4 -> 2.94 (and changed year to 2019)
2.5 -> 2.95 (and changed year to 2019)

with comments added to the episode number change to explain that the 2.9x numbers are dummy ones until the correct order is announced week by week, when an exact date and the correct number can be added.

The state so far is that all the non-conflicting episodes (2.2-2.5) have been renumbered to dummy numbers, but the two which are in conflict (2.1, and 2.6 being renumbered to 2.1) have not been renumbered yet. I've submitted a second 2.1->2.91 change, and when that's safely out of the way, I'll submit a second 2.6->2.1 change.

Unfortunately, renumbering of episodes is one of the few changes that isn't (yet) covered by the "Track Contribution" button.

Hi Martin -

I can see that the corrections you submitted were approved and the episodes are now reflecting the correct first episode for Season 2 and the 2019 release year:

In general, these corrections need to be handled on a case-by-case basis depending on if the issue is related to the episode title name, release dates, or episode numbers (or all three).  In general, if the episodes contain the same cast/crew information, you can submit the applicable episode order number corrections through our online Update form and our editors will take a look.  You need to be a little more cautious of submitting these corrections if there are also errors is cast/crew and other listed data types.
