My review was declined saying it conflicted with the policies. Yet going back and reading it I fail to see where I conflicted with anything they put in there. Maybe someone can point out what I said wrong. I didn't think I was bashing anyone when I wrote this more so to say that their performances just fell short.
Not a bad movie by any means but it's clear they don't make them like they used too. The average singing and bland acting from Blunt and Miranda kept this from really being a great movie they both felt incomplete in terms to what they brought to the screen. Songs weren't as catchy as the original although they were written fairly well. But Miranda who they got for Jack's part was just a bland actor I mean don't get me wrong he got the voice part pretty good for a ode to Van Dyke but in terms of bringing life to Jack he just really fell short and didn't make the character his own. Can't blame him I suppose since Hollywood doesn't revolve around musicals anymore but watch Van Dyke in the original and what he does and it is just so much better. This guy kept having to force his smiles and looked like he was always concentrating on his dancing, frowning all the time as oppose to Van Dyke who just looks like he lives the role everyday. Emily Blunt did a superior job in the acting department but its clear she's no Julie Andrews when she starts singing and that's a testament to how great Julie was in her prime.
Still though it was a solid movie and kudos to Marshall for trying to make this a perfect musical and still do the original justice the movie was terrifically choreographed and clever with scenes paying tribute to the original.Blunt is great but she's no Julie Andrews.
