Screen Credited but . . . no IMDb !

I am screen credited for four episodes of Briarpatch.  I've submitted my request several times to be listed in the cast for episodes 3, 5, 6, and 7.  Each time IMDb refuses and asks me for evidence.  When I try to provide that, there is no place for me to attach the screenshots (attached to this post).  I'm stuck in an "infinite do loop."  Can anyone help me get the credits I deserve? Thanks in advance.

NeverAgain$,

Have you submitted an update to add the missing credits? If so, please post the 18-digit reference numbers, which will help the IMDb editors to investigate and review the submission.

Thank you for responding.  Here are the ref #'s for episode 3.  In the text I asked for all 4 episodes to be credited (3, 5, 6, 7).  Here you are:

Contribution #200628-222952-625000

Appreciate anything you can do for me.

p.s. Of note, for the episode 3 screenshot, Sarah Minnich's name appears just above mine.  We have the same Agent.  She was credited in IMDb while I was not.

I entered most of the cast lists for Briarpatch. There is a definite ambiguity as whether Puppeteers are cast members or not.

You can read the cast guide here: https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/filmography-credits/cast-acting-credits-guidelines/GH3JZC74FVYKKFMD#voice

The pertinent information is: "The term "actor" covers everyone whose image or voice appears in a recognised title."

Puppeteers generally neither appear and may or may not voice the puppet. Being listed as a puppeteer makes me believe your voice does not appear, as it would be listed as the puppet character.

I did voice the character I was playing in each episode.  I played two separate characters.  Episode 3 is a good example.  As you know I was screen credited as cast for each episode.
Your reference states:
"The term "actor" covers everyone whose image or voice appears in a recognised title. This would include documentary subjects, hosts, narrators, athletes, or other people not "acting" in the traditional sense.

I agree there has been some ambiguity in the past, but it has become more clear over time (e.g. puppeteer Jim Henson had 92 credits as an actor for the puppetry he performed for Sesame Street amid others; Tom Hanks was credited as an actor for his roles in the Toy Story series.  While I am nowhere near the caliber of those actors, in my mind the principle remains the same.
If it is a coin toss, I would hope you would grant this Puppeteer Actor trained for TV and Film by Jim Henson Muppet performers the benefit of any ambiguous doubt.  Please give me your full consideration, these represent my breakthrough as a Puppeteer Actor.

I think the problem is with the credit. Puppeteer does not invoke voice credits. Also, Henson is well known to provide the voice of his characters. I'm pretty sure that he isn't credited as "Puppeteer" but as the characters he embodies. Tom Hanks is a voice credit and credited that way. You are really comparing apples to oranges with that comparison. With a credit solely as "puppeteer", instead of credited for the puppets you voiced/acted, it leaves it up to the editor as to whether it is eligible.

I'm not arguing that you shouldn't have a credit, just that according to the IMDb rules for such credit it is not a clear case given how you are credited.

Hopefully, an IMDb employee will respond with clarification. I do believe this is part of IMDb's rules that need to be update given that motion capture artists can be credited with cast listings. Then again, I also think their "Additional Voice" credits for animated features are bizarre.

Adrian:  I see your point about the title "Puppeteer #1" not invoking the imagery for voice credits.  I checked Henson on IMDb and drilled down on the roles he has played.  I see where you are coming from.  He is credited for the characters he portrayed.  OK then, for clarification and building upon that, the scripted characters I portrayed were:
Ep 3  "Algorithm Capone"
Ep 5  "X"
Ep 6  "Algorithm Capone"
Ep 7  "X"
I have the script but I do not see a way to attach it here.

Adrian:  declined again.  :-(   and directed to "add evidence" (again)  There does not seem to be a way to attach the screenshots.  As you entered most of the cast into IMDb, can you add me?  Or can you tell me my next best step to take?  I sure wish I could provide "evidence" and state my position with something more than an online form.  And the exchange we have going has helped me to express my position.  Based on your experience and from your perspective, what do I do now?

Sorry, but you will have to wait for an employee to help you. Hopefully they can push through your updates. Unfortunately, your credit would have to be "Puppeteer #1" because that is how it is shown on screen.

I hope this ends up with an update to the cast guide. IMDb data is mostly entered by people like me and I haven't been putting puppeteers in the cast based on my reading of the guide.

thanks again, Adrian.  As the attached feedback reads "Declined" do I do anything else?  Or have you put me in some sort of queue?  (I guess I don't understand the overall process) for a case like mine.

Adrian: hello again from your friendly neighborhood Puppeteer #1.  Hope you had a good 4th.  My 200628-222952-625000 remains "declined; unable to verify."  When we last left off you said I did not have to do anything but wait.  Am I under reconsideration in a queue with IMDb?  Or do I have to start over . . . again?  I still don't understand if a conversation here with you results in your intervention with IMDb in some way.  Need your advice on how to proceed . . .

And a question. Is the puppet only visible?
Or are you as a puppeteer? The person controlling the puppet?

  • for Ed Jones (Achmed the Dead) :-)  The puppet is visible; I am not.  (I am an  actor and puppeteer trained for TV & Film by Jim Henson performers).  I voiced and manipulated puppets in Briarpatch ep 3, 5, 6 and 7; I was screen credited for my acting roles for these four episodes.  IMDb rules: “The term "actor" covers everyone whose image or voice appears in a recognized title. This would include documentary subjects, hosts, narrators, athletes, or other people not "acting" in the traditional sense.”  I think I have a solid case here.  I will resubmit following your instructions regarding evidence.
  • for GMJ:  I will parallel my resubmit with filing a report (email) using the IMDb Contact Us form.
  • thank you both for your advice.  I never imagined this was going to be so difficult.  I am pressing on ...

Ed: hi again.  I am totally confused.  I submitted all that via the email method and was told by Charlie of IMDb Customer Service to go back to the dreaded orange box to resubmit.  So I did that.  Now I get an email saying that IMDb is working it and to track it.  When I do that it says my update is disapproved because it is the same as a previous update which it is not.  I just added all the info, URLs, etc.  I cannot figure out where I stand: whether my request is still active or not.  Disheartened.   But, darn it, I WILL get my darn credits.

you see the one pending? and all the others declined.  well, the one pending does not have all the url's and refs you told me to include.  so every time i try to submit those as evidence, i get a bounce back that it's declined as a dupe.  the one that is pending does not contain the url evidence.  WELL, all I am trying to do is submit the evidence to the pending one.  I can see where this is likely to go..... "declined.  no evidence" when all the evidence has been submitted in updates that are labeled "dupes" and rejected.

BIG :-)  With TV gigs for speaking puppeteers are scarce as hen's teeth here, this marks my first public documentation as a SAG puppeteer.  That's a big deal for me.

Case closed!  I'll keep this thread on notifications until tomorrow for any masters.
