When I want to find recommendations for a good science fiction movie, I don't want to have to wade through TV shows, documentaries, movies rated less than 6 stars, and movies which haven't been released yet.  It requires looking through hundreds of listings to get one gem.  This is probably the biggest interactive database in the world, certainly the one which works the best, but searching seems a little undeveloped.

Hi Josalyn Hanson,

On the IMDb Top Rated Movies page (http://www.imdb.com/chart/top?ref=ft_250), you can see these links on the right side:

Top Rated Movies by Genre Clicking on Sci-Fi you should see:
Highest Rated Sci-Fi Feature Films
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?genres=sci_fi&sort=user_rating,desc&title_type=feature

IMDb has an Advanced Title Search that should help you find suitable science fiction films. To get to the Advanced Title Search click on this link, or select Advanced Search from the drop down menu in the search box and select Advanced Title Search from that page.

Once you are on the Advanced Title Search:
1. Feature Film under Title Type.
2. Select Sci-Fi under Genres.
3. Click the yellow Search button.

This produces:
Most Popular Sci-Fi Feature Films
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?genres=sci_fi&title_type=feature

You can also sort the search by user ratings:
Highest Rated Sci-Fi Feature Films
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?at=0&genres=sci_fi&sort=user_rating&title_type=feature
