Why is IMDB not social?

There is a world of potential in using the creative forces of the Imdb users.

As it is Imdb is a dictionary. Why not let it be a community, a place to get suggestions, a place where everybody ges the possibility to be a film critic. A place where you can truly find good movies.

With the possibility to search user lists, to follow, comment and favorit, imdb would be this place.

Imdb is a dictionary.
IMDb is the Internet Movie Database. Its primary purpose is to record the credits for all movies, TV shows and video games, so yes, it is 'a dictionary'.
Why not let it be a community, a place to get suggestions, a place where everybody ges the possibility to be a film critic. A place where you can truly find good movies.
If you want to be a film critic, you can submit a Review  to the database. there are many thousands of Reviews, all submitted by users. Of course, you need to follow the guidelines so that the result will be readable.

If you just want to make a comment, every Title page and Name page listed in the database has an attached Board. Comments here will expire  sooner or later, depending on the activity on the Board, but there is plenty of give and take on them.

Every Title can be rated by the Users, allowing you to find those that are highly rated.

Yes, there is, and IMDb knows that. The majority of all the data in the database has been added by users, very little by paid staff.

You are missing my point.

As I write in the title, the main idea is to be able to search user lists. This is what I want to follow, comment and favorit.

The lists are already there. They are just not available through the imdb site.

With these lists available, you could follow people who share your tast in movies and trough their list find new inspiration on what to watch.

I find it a waist of potential to hide this material away.

Its kind of like the "friend function" its there, but hidden so well it's almost impossible to find.

Incidentally, it gets suggested continually.

With this site's suggestion area, "idea," you can +1 ideas to give staff an idea of how popular it is while new threads with one or two comments might not help as much. You might want to vote up the existing ones.

Search user lists ...
BTW, one of the other threads suggesting a list-search feature has at least 67 Likes up to now.  (That is a respectable number of Likes relative to most suggestion threads on this board.)

That is high...I'd expect that to take notice (and get higher)!

BTW:  As you see in that thread I linked above, an IMDb rep wrote 2 years ago that "technical staff is considering several ideas to improve lists, and a search feature is among them."

He also noted that a site-specific Google search can be used as a workaround.  However, as I noted in my reply today in that thread, web search engine coverage of lists is never 100% complete.

That is high...
Yet I suppose that number should be multiplied by some significant "fudge factor" to get some kind of idea of the potential level of interest among IMDb users:

Compare, just for example, the Emoji discussion that had hundreds of comments on the IMDb Information board (until that thread was auto-locked) but a related thread here on GetSat had far fewer comments and just 22 Likes.

For whatever reasons, it often seems that some considerable percentage of IMDb.com board users interested in a given issue might not post on GetSatisfaction.  If many more of those users were participating here, we'd see many more replies (and Likes) in some of these threads.

Is it ironic that perhaps one of the reasons behind the relatively peaceful and efficient operation of this board may be due to the absence of much larger crowds of users, many of whom may be prepared to speak up and voice views on the IMDb boards but (for whatever reasons) not so much here on GetSat?
