searching for The Tales of Hoffmann

This may be 2 problems:
1) shouldn't a search for "hoffmann" find "d'hoffmann", and
2) how to add an English translation of the title to an episode

This search finds what I'm looking for, right on top:,desc&view=simple

But my original search (in the same list) does not:,desc&view=simple

After looking at the titles, I realized all but my target had the English translation embedded in the title, so that Hoffmann was its own word, without the contraction d'.

So I thought I'd add the alternate title to my target. No such option comes up for a TV episode.

It's really NOT a title correction; only the French was used on the broadcast title card.
I really want to enter an English translation, which you can do for films:

Sadly, IMDb doesn't allow aka titles for episodes, which is a shame because there are many cases where it would be very useful.

I've seen some cases where an episode that was originally submitted as a movie has later retained its aka titles after being converted to an episode, so it's technically possible, but there's no way to add them directly to an episode, and messing with the title types just to add an aka title isn't a sensible workaround.

I've also seen more than a few TV series' that add an English translation of the title in parenthesis after the original title (as part of the primary title), but as you say, unless it's actually shown on screen that way, then no matter how useful it may be, it's still against IMDb's rules.

Sorry, not got a solution to offer.
