I see this (I'm in the US):

But when I click through to the release dates:

I thought it displayed the first unannotated release date, which would be 31Aug40. Is it now picking by country too?
When I search the Help for "wrong release date displays", here's what I get for IMDb (not Pro nor Contribution):

Simplifying the search to just "release date" does no better.
Shouldn't the Help center have an answer to this question? If it already does, what search retrieves it?

Filmmakers/Producers -
we all know how exciting it is to have your film posted on IMDB
when it's in development, production, and even completed.
But, putting some information on IMDB is not going to help you --
most of the time, the information will actually work against you.
Here are some real suggestions for your posting
that will not lock your film into stone on IMDB (never to be changed again!!!) ...

Titles of certain films date as 'first time shown' --
is becoming a major headache for producers and distributors
.

Yes the release date shown there is dependent on your country. The title year by the title will always show the earliest release year though.
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Will

1) The subject line: searching Help for which release date is displayed
2) The concluding sentence: Shouldn't the Help center have an answer to this question? If it already does, what search retrieves it?

Remember, I'm searching not as a contributor, but just an imdb user:

This has only just been added and can take up to 24 hours to be reflected on the help site.
Thanks,

It's a user-level question that deserves a link in both user-level and contributor-level results.

On the other hand, to your point about contributor pages, the submission guides always contain information which you won't find anywhere else. For release dates alone, examples could include: What does "limited" mean? What does "premiere" mean? How do you list non-theatrical release dates?

A FAQ item about release date display or about data which can be customized might be helpful, perhaps in connection with information about title display.since that invokes a title category in my mind:

We tried to follow the instructions but there was no active option to change the year.
We want it to be 2020.
Our film is called 'The Hunt'. On IMDb it says: The Hunt (2019/VII) and in the search it appears as: The Hunt (VII) (2019) (Short)
Can we get rid of the Roman number?
Thank you.
