As a website used worldwide IMDb should consider giving users the option to change the time zone accordingly to their location.

I’ve been thinking about suggesting this for a while and finally decided to do it since, as was referred by some users on the IMDb Information boards, the new look for the message boards makes it a little difficult for us non-Americans to know when exactly a post was written. In the old boards we had both the complete time stamp and the “xx minutes/hours/days ago” information, so most people working on a different time zone than the standard IMDb time (which is Pacific time, if I’m not mistaken) would just ignore the second part of the information:

Now we only see the complete time stamp:

If we want to know the “xx minutes ago” information we have to hover over every single post we read, which is very inconvenient:

Things would become a lot easier to us foreign users (and even Americans working on different time zones) if we could choose the time zone we want to be displayed.

It's frustrating in Arizona where the time mirrors MST during DST, but not during the winter.  This is a fairly common option and shouldn't be too hard to implement.

This is a problem for everyone who isn't on Pacific Standard Time in the U.S.

SO - how can I show that I am on London, UK time, please.

Most Message board websites allow such a selection, why not IMDB, especially now it is owned by Amazon.

I think it is right that IMDB started in the UK, so to only show time settings for Pacific Time USA, is going to be irritating to all those early joiners who are still returning.

You can't. It displays the time where that server is located.

especially now it is owned by Amazon.
Not sure how that's relevant, but being owned by Amazon happened so they could add servers, like the US Pac time zone one.

Selectable timezones is probably not easy to implement on the mess that is IMDb.com.  They can't even get compatibility of text and HTML display down between different pages.  Anyway, I'll be celebrating tomorrow when MST in Arizona lines up with PDT in Seattle where I believe the main servers live.

Please consider this IMDB! Because... it's quite annoying having to not only read message board replies in military time, but also Pacific time.... I know it might be hard to implement, but it'd be awesome if the site could allow us to choose what time and format we see posts in. Thanks! :)

When IMDB started it was out of an interest in films (I am in the UK writing at 12.10 pm British Summer Time)  and developed as a service to those likewise interested wanting to share their interest and learn from others.

Now it is largely a marketing tool, and so it will do whatever is needed to maximise profit.

Maybe folk need to look elsewhere to satisfy the original aims of the IMDB founders.
