John Cleese did a Sherlock Spoof in 1977 - The Strange Case of the End of Civilization as we Know It. I don't recall your scene, but I do remember a series of elaborate puns on "Elementary, My Dear Watson". It's worth a look regardless of whether it ends your quest.
