Spam on IMDb's News Sections

Someone should also do something about all these spams that proliferate in the news sections, I'm tired to find these "I made 500$ working at home etc. etc." whenever I read news. These spams can't outlive the boards, no way!

ElM,

This appears to be a separate problem that that of the original thread. Also, since that thread was marked solved, the IMDb technical staff is unlikely to see your post.

Could you go into more detail? Is the spam related to the Facebook comments for news items in the news section? Or are there news items that are themselves spam.

If it is the comments from Facebook, then IMDb would probably have to block comments on news stories to block spam.

Not news items, Dan, but comments on the news section. Here's an example, check the comments:

It's one poster from indian, maybe by the time you'll read this, it'll have been deleted but the comment is there right now

ElM,

These are comments from Facebook. It appears that Facebook has a problem with accounts that distribute spam.

In theory, anyone who has a Facebook account can report these spammers. I do not have a Facebook account and do not plan to have one. Unfortunately, reporting a spam account only gets rid of one account. Facebook does not appear to have an effective means to block spam.

To completely block this kind of spam, IMDb would have to block comments on news stories.

That sucks

Some are even spamming the comments section of Bill Paxton's death announcement

Elm,

It looks like other comments from Facebook have pushed the spam out of the first 20 comments. Regardless, using Facebook to comment on news stories and lists presents problems beyond spam. The Facebook plugin does not provide a means to filter out inappropriate comments.

Well, I guess it's up to FB people to deal with the issue, maybe there's someone in IMDb staff who can tell them about it.
