I am a prolific reviewer on IMDB...and suddenly all recent reviews received a not helpful en masse. I don't mind if someone doesn't like a review...but to slap ALL of them with not helpfuls seems abusive.

1) Most users probably don't read reviews and dislike it simply depending on the rating that you gave.
2) Because of the "Helpfulness Ascending" disliked reviews are getting even more disliked.

Martin.
There is nothing IMDb can do about that.
Would you be here complaining IF you were spammed with "Helpfuls"?
I seriously doubt it.
When you do ANYTHING in public you are at the mercy of that aforementioned fickle public.
You MUST be willing to take the good with the bad!
And please.
No retorts abut "Fair"
Life is not "Fair" and there are no guarantees of what may happen.
Cheers.

Hi Martin. Ed is absolutely right in this case in that IMDb are more than unlikely to be able to do anything about it and/or not consider it a problem. They do have a lot on their plate as well with increases in submissions, terms and conditions violation complaints and many inquiries regarding data on a daily even hourly basis and they will consider those a lot more important. I have known that for a long time when problems with useful votes are reported IMDb have tended to not consider it a problem or suspicious. I do understand why you are upset and suspicious though, I personally think it is abuse but that is my very subjective opinion, and I think being confused by why it is happening plays a big part in the frustration. I think both cinephile's reasons are very plausible as well, and both have been known to happen. It also may be a case of the writing style and tone not being to someone's tastes, how the review starts off (ie. too much context), a bias against prolific reviewers or if a review gets useful votes quickly after approval and they might find that odd. That's not directed directly at you at all, absolutely not, but directed to everybody else having similar issues. I do understand how you feel (as do a couple other prolific reviewers) being another prolific reviewer who has had this exact same problem frequently since last year and had the same experience as you again last night (though actually this year it hasn't been as bad).
There could be a chance that it is the same person but that is speculation and may be untrue. I was actually reading over my reviews by chance in last night's case, when I saw it started happening I actually followed to see how they were doing it for so many reviews in such a short time period, and it was clear to me in all due respect that the person doing it was doing so without even reading the reviews, just clicking no as they went along. I was very upset about it when it first started in late 2018 and got worse and did make a big deal out of it, disproportionately so in retrospect, in what was a very difficult year health wise. I have though moved on and acknowledged that I overreacted and mustn't make a big deal out of it anymore. Not with so many worse things to worry about. It has been hard that it's still a problem but I've much more accepting now and carrying on as normal. I think I know what the problem initially in my case, as I did start getting repetitive without meaning to for a short period but that has been long addressed and wasn't happening at all when the situation got worse. I even have since the end of last year sincerely apologised in my profile for how I acted last year and for being a burden and annoying to some users. Although it may not look it to some, I decided too to slow down with my review writing and have since the end of last year been taking a number of 1-4 week breaks every three weeks to focus on other things, and I've benefitted from it.
I do hope this helps and that I haven't been disrespectful. I can absolutely understand the frustration and it is hard, especially with this awful coronavirus pandemic going on, but I do think not much can be done here. Don't be discouraged though, because it is one person we're talking about and not a group. I just wanted to show support and advice, well intending to, while saying too that you are not the only one who had had this.

In answer to your post ACT_1, as you seemed to be querying what I meant by a couple of other prolific reviewers having Martin's and my experiences, user Red-Barracuda (fellow long term reviewer) also reported two years ago having the same experience. He occasionally bumped the thread he made reporting the issue to ask for any update after staff said they'd look into it and it's still unsolved. It is the reason as to why he's no longer writing any reviews ever since it began, as he was certain it was abuse too. Just over half a year or so ago, another prolific reviewer (don't know who) reported it and things got pretty ugly between him and Ed. This was just to answer your post and with no other motivation, I have realised I have bumped an answered thread so I am going to leave it at that.

Just stop caring what people think about you. Especially complete strangers. I'd happily accept a 0/10 under all my reviews if it means imdb brings back some of the amazing features that got lost a couple years ago with the huge update. Also in terms of reviews like the more convenient display and the Deleted Reviews overview. These should be the priorities and I hope they are and not how to deal with sour trolls that flood-downvote reviews. It's their time anyway, i.e. their waste of time.
