Statistics, FAQs and other service announcements

We're only 3 days down the new getsatisfaction road and we already have 8 pages of threads (on a desktop computer).

It becomes increasingly difficult to find back the threads with useful information (How to's, FAQs, statistics, etc.) if everything is posted in the category "Ideas". Wouldn't it be better to separate poll suggestions from the more information-related threads?

The most logical category would be to post information messages in the category "Announcements", but I see that this is not accessible to normal users (can this be changed)?

Therefore I'm suggesting to keep posting poll suggestions in the category "Ideas" and to post all service-related messages in one of the other available categories "Questions", "Problems" or "Praise". Maybe "Questions" is the correct place? For the time being this category is still empty.

What do you think?

leavey-2,

What you suggest makes sense.

I change the category for the FAQs to announcement.

This link should show you all the FAQs:

Thanks, Dan. Actually it's one of the (few) advantages of the new message board to have sub-categories, so it would be good to use it. And standard you always get all messages so there's no risk that the message is overlooked, but when you search for specific information this comes in very handy.

It seems wrong that a post on poll badges should be the featured announcement over the recent post about the message board shutdown.

As far as I'm concerned Col Needham's message may be pinned on top of the announcement page for the next year or so, but I think it's a good way to ensure that the info messages are easily retrievable and don't get lost in the long list of poll suggestions.

Peter, leavey-2 and penguin,

I changed the category for FAQ to Article. As such, only Col Needham's announcement is the only announcement on https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/categories/imdb_imdb_poll. My changing the category had the unintended side effect of overwriting Col Needham's announcement.

Unfortunately, this makes find the FAQs more difficult to find.

Hi Dan,

I cannot find the category "Article". There are only 6 categories in the IMDb Poll section:
  1. All
  2. Questions
  3. Ideas
  4. Problems
  5. Praise
  6. Announcements
Wouldn't it be better to select one of those categories? Otherwise it will be really difficult to find. Maybe it's possible as an administrator to pin Col Needham's message to the top? This way all other messages automatically are posted under Col's announement. Or is it possible to create a link like the 6 other categories and call it "7. Articles"?

The most recent announcement appears in a banner at the top of the community. This is different from pinning.

We may be able to pin the most important FAQs in the poll category.

Oh, actually pinning in that sense (sticky posts) does not seem to be possible.

@leavey-2,

I've asked the administrator how a user with admin rights can search for Articles. I will post an update in this thread when I receive an answer.

@Peter,

Pinning would be nice. When I complete uploading the FAQ, I will post an index for the FAQs and make the link to that FAQ on the IMDb poll message board.
