The stunt crew from Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), in the not-so-distant past, brought on a renewed effort to get the AMPAS [or the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science] to create the Academy Award category for Best Stunt Coordinator.
Do you agree with them? Should there be an Oscar category celebrating the best stunts and stunt coordination in a given cinematic year?

Hundreds of people were invited to join the Academy in 2017, hundreds more were invited in 2018, and 2019. No stunt people were invited in join the Academy in 2017, 2018, nor 2019. In 90 years only two stunt people got a lifetime achievement award from the Academy Awards; Yakima Canutt and Hal Needham. It all likelihood, those will be the only stunt people the Academy Awards give an award to for a very long time in the foreseeable future.

Then again, Roger Corman got a honorary one in 2010, "For his rich engendering of films and filmmakers". So, who know, really. Oh, and he also was an uncredited stunt driver on his 1957 production The Fast and the Furious, so depending on whether you counting him and Buster Keaton (1960 honorary award "for his unique talents which brought immortal comedies to the screen") there are four stunt people who have Oscars.

Roger Corman was awarded for making movies as a producer not a stunt person.
Being an Uncredited stunt driver is not what got him an Honorary award.
Buster Keaton was awarded for his acting and film making, not for his stunt work.
Writing that a person who won an award for some other achievement, (such as acting or directing), and who was a stunt person for a few times when they got started is not the same as giving an award for stunt work alone.
There have been only two people who have received Academy awards for their stunt work, and only for their stunt work: Yakima Canutt and Hal Needham.
Yakima Canutt and Hal Needham did have to direct, act, write scripts, perform music, or come up with a technical special effect. They did not have to do other jobs that are given annual awards by the motion picture Academy.
When a few thousand people are invited to join the Academy Awards in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and No stunt people were asked to join, it is obvious that after Ninety years the Academy Awards think stunt work is not worthy of an annual award.
A few years ago, the Academy awards considered giving an annual to stunt people and they decided not to. That is Not going to change anytime soon.

Another Poster, I'm not arguing with that, but Keaton's work very much included stunts, at least, and his award formulation I'd say is vague enough to include them, as well. Keaton's work was one of the major influences for many modern stunts and some of his work is even hard to replicate with modern safety standards.
