Submission Error While Uploading Photos

Hello!

For the past two days, I have been experiencing difficulty uploading movie still frames to various titles.

Sorry we are unable to process your submission at this time. Please try again later.”

Is this a problem on my end, or does this inconvenience affect the entire site?

Has anyone else encountered the same issue? Are you still able to effortlessly upload photos?

This complication does not affect other types of submissions (plots, taglines, keywords, corrections, deletions, etc.)

My system: Fully updated Windows 10, latest Firefox.

Thank you for your time considering my request.

While I've encountered the error and corresponding error before for "Edit page" submissions on occasion, I've never had this happen to me while I was trying to upload a photo.

In my case, it's the other way round.

Regarding this issue, I've tried to upload more photos; however, the system seems very unstable.

For the first time, the files (significantly less than 1MB) take too long to upload, leading to submission errors similar to time-out errors.

Another peculiar thing is that--even though I fail to upload the photo--I do get an update receipt in my mail, and after a while, the still frame appears in the photo gallery.

What do you think?

Sadly, this issue renders the file-uploading procedure utterly impractical.

Nick Riganas, that is interesting information, but you're spooking me, since reports like that give the feeling that IMDb is falling into disrepair due to insufficient internal resources, for which there should be no excuse. IMDb should have above-premium utilization of S3 and related stuff. Hopefully, it is just a temporary situation/trend, whereby less than 0.01% of users are affected for more than an average of 12 cumulative hours of a week.

Thank you very much, Jeorj and Nikolay for the support; now it's me who is a bit spooked.

However, in my latest attempt to upload some photos to https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0023439/?ref_=rvi out of eighteen frames, only two files “timed out”. But, I resubmitted them, and they were accepted.

In addition, uploading times now seem significantly shorter; nevertheless, I still get the feeling that something’s not right.

Who knows, maybe this is only a temporary “internal” matter. Let’s hope things will be better tomorrow—because, frankly—the photos keep piling up.

Hi Nick -

Please first make sure that the images you are uploading meet our current format/size/resolution requirements:

- IMDb supports JPEG and PNG images.
- Images must be no smaller than 50KB and no larger than 20MB.
- Both the image height and width must be between 500 and 8000 pixels.  Based on the dimensions, IMDb may crop the image as necessary.
- For posters, to minimize cropping, we recommend a vertical alignment (i.e. portrait orientation) with an aspect ratio of 1:0.675.

If you are certain that your uploads all meet this criteria and you are still receiving the error, please confirm here and let us know what titles you were submitting the images to, this way our technical staff can investigate further.

That's a good point. Thank you. An image file larger than 20MB might possibly bog down connection and cause it to timeout.

Hi, Michelle!

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I confirm that my uploads (significantly less than 1MB) do meet IMDb’s criteria. In addition, I would like to add that I haven’t made any changes in my system (add/remove programs, etc).

I received a “submission error” message while uploading still frames to the following titles:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0023439/?ref_=rvi_tt

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0012570/?ref_=rvi_tt

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0200565/?ref_=rvi_tt

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0263524/?ref_=rvi_tt

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1426352/?ref_=rvi_tt

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8412544/?ref_=rvi_tt

However, everything works fine now, and this peculiar and unprecedented technical issue no longer exists.

Today, all my photos were uploaded effortlessly to those titles, and my lightning-fast upload speed is back.

I am officially back in business!

Thank you very much for the support.

@Jeorj Euler

Thank you very much for the link about the informative and thought-provoking article on 6σ. To sum up this technical(ish) thread, I would like to say something only ACT_1 would say:
