I wanted to submit trivia to a tv show, so I read the submission guide and cannot figure something out because it seems like there is conflicting information. I wanted to post trivia that relates to only one particular episode, not the entire series.

Here is the link for the guide: https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/g...

In the section "How should I format my trivia item" under 1. Hyperlinks, it states "Note: There is no need to create self-referential (qv) links, i.e. links to the title that the submission is actually attached to. Usually "the film", "this film", "the movie" etc. is sufficient."

Then down the page to number 7, I read this:
"7. TV Episodes
If your submission is specific to a particular episode, please submit it under that episode's title page, not the title page of the series itself. For example:
_"Friends" (1994) {The One Where Joey Moves Out (#2.16)}_ (qv)
...and not:
_"Friends" (1994)_ (qv)"

To me, those two statements seem conflicting. The first one makes sense, but the second one, #7, does not, because it says "please submit it under that episode's title page, not the title page of the series itself."
Why would I need to add the qv when it's being posted on the episode's title page?

I need to know exactly how to post a trivia item on an episode page that only refers to that particular episode. Any help with this would be much appreciated, Thank You.

The only answer that I can come up with is that maybe the submission guide's meaning is that, according to 1., I don't need to provide a qv link to a trivia item if it applies to the entire series, then according to 7., Even though I post a trivia item on an episode page, it still need a qv link???

Even if that's the case, I still wonder why number 1 note says, "Usually "the film", "this film", "the movie" etc. is sufficient." Does this mean that for each trivia item I post, on a movie, tv series, or tv episode page, I have to write "the film", or "this film", or"the movie" or "this episode" when I'm posting it on that "movie's" page??? I mean, if someone is reading the Trivia section of the movie "Jaws", why would they think that trivia would apply to some other movie???

Anna: Note 1 means that the following trivia item (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073195/trivia?item=tr0759241) is fine, where the film is not referenced by title or description, since it is obvious what film is being discussed:
Director Steven Spielberg named the shark "Bruce" after his lawyer.
And the following trivia item (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073195/trivia?item=tr0776813) is fine, also, where the film is just called "the film":
A real shark became entangled in a line that had been laid down over the underwater cage. This footage was subsequently used in the film.
But the following trivia item (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073195/trivia?item=tr0776887) is not correctly formatted under note 1, because it unnecessarily links back to the title of the film to which it pertains:
When composer John Williams originally played the score for director Steven Spielberg, Spielberg laughed and said, "That's funny, John, really; but what did you really have in mind for the theme of Jaws (1975)?" Spielberg later stated that without Williams's score, the movie would only have been half as successful and according to Williams, it jumpstarted his career.
Since this is a trivia item for the film Jaws (1975), the hyperlink should not have been added to the quote from Steven Spielberg.

Note 7 means that if you are submitting a trivia item that pertains to one episode of a TV series, you should submit the item to the trivia page for that episode, not the trivia page for the series overall. That does not mean you need to include a "qv" link in your trivia item. In fact, I think that this particular note is poorly worded and I see the ambiguity there, but nonetheless I am sure as to what the IMDb staff meant by it. I may post a separate thread to ask for it to be corrected.
