Every New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, millions of people, in several countries, sing "Auld Lang Syne," remembering long-running or important relationships. Which of these unforgotten relationships do you find to be the most touching or inspirational?

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls093548203/
Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/Zdw6uLY9zS8/

& Suggestions would be great. : )

Sorry, Ed, but I'm limiting it to films; I've been thinking that perhaps next year, though,  I'll do a TV version so I'll add it to that list. Thank you!

I would like to suggest two strong relationships which never cross a border of romance:
- Brendan (a boy monk) and Aisling (a faerie) from The Secret of Kells (2009)
- Theo and Kee from Children of Men (2006)

Thank you for the suggestions. I haven't seen 'Children of Men' in a while but I don't remember Theo and Kee being separated for any significant amount of time; am I forgetting something?

I haven't seen The Secret of Kells: are Brendan and Aisling separated for a long time?

It's fine, by the way, if the relationship isn't romantic: five of the relationships on the list, so far, are platonic, and I thought there would be more.

Oh, sorry... I've read the whole introduction:
''Every New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, millions of people, in several countries, sing "Auld Lang Syne," remembering long-running or important relationships. Which of these unforgotten relationships do you find to be the most touching or inspirational?''
but didn't notice a play-on-words where 'Auld' is 'Old'. Now I fully understand your intention. Therefore, I conclude that Children of Men doesn't apply to this poll, but The Secret of Kells does. I could write it exactly how Brendan and Aisling fit, if you don't mind the movie spoiled?

I don't mind it being spoiled but really all I need to know if they were separated for a significant amount of time but "never forgot each other" despite that. "Never forgot each other" meaning that despite obstacles and significant separations, their bond was never broken.

Thank you! : )

Ruby,

Since it's an image-poll, I think it would work better not to have poster or title-related pictures like the one you have for Shawshank Redemption...  it looks awkward especially since it's the only one, I'm sure you'll find pictures of your convenience, check this list:

https://www.imdb.com/poll/q2dNE_sz5dw/

Your idea is great but there are so many unforgettable relationships over  the course of cinema's history, you could make the same poll about romantic relationships, friendships, family relationships, right now, I would love to make suggestions but I don't know where to start... take Rocky for instance, should I consider his enduring love story with Adrian? His mentor-and-son relationship with Mickey? His friendship with Apollo?

I'm afraid you're asking too much from me, ruby lol

Happy New Year!

Hey ElMo, I may not have done such a good job with the intro because I don't mean that these characters and their relationships are simply unforgettable to us but that the characters didn't forget each other despite long separations and it's not simply that their relationships are enduring but enduring despite long absences. I went through my list of films that I've seen (my more complete one that I have on my laptop: the one on IMDb is just a small fraction of it, at least so far) and there weren't very many examples. Out of thousands of films, I only came up with 17 relationships.

In terms of your Rocky examples, I don't really know because, while I love the original film, I stopped watching the sequels after the second or third and, while I've seen the first enough times to remember it well, I don't remember the second or third hardly at all and don't know what happened after so I can't evaluate those examples. If the characters went through at least one long separation, with little or no contact, but remained bonded, then they belong on the list.

Oh, and yes, there was a reason for using the poster of Red and Andy but it probably doesn't matter anymore so I was thinking of changing it if and when I have the time.
