During the The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007) three Mexican directors, Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro González Iñárritu and Guillermo del Toro were all in contention at the Oscars and they became known as The Three Amigos. They share an unique bond with all of them helping in each other projects.

After Guillermo del Toro's victory at the 2018 Oscars, they all have won the Best Director Academy Award, which has been for one of them in four of the last five ceremonies.

Which of them had the greatest achievement in direction for those works?

I would probably leave it as is, since most people haven't seen it. But, I thought I would mention Carne y Arena (Short) fits the scope of the question to some degree." greatest achievement in direction"

Alejandro G. Iñárritu got a Special Achievement Award for Carne y Arena (2017) in
2018  He was awarded his trophy for the Virtual Reality achievement at the Governor's Ball.

Alejandro G. Inarritu’s Virtual Reality  ‘Carne y Arena’ to Receive Special Oscars Award

"The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Friday that Alejandro G. Inarritu’s virtual reality installation “Carne y Arena (Virtually Present, Physically Invisible)” will receive a special Oscar statuette this year, “in recognition of a visionary and powerful experience in storytelling.”

It may fit, but since it got an special Oscar instead of a win in the Best Director category, I will leave it as it is.

I should go watch Carne y arena by the way, it is being shown at a Mexican museum this days.

'Good face-off! Tough choice between Inarritu for 'Birdman' or del Toro for 'Shape of Water.' I really like this one. :)

May I suggest a few small edits? (below in bold)

This one is such a heart-wrenching Sophia's Choice?  You are a monster for making me choose Pencho.

Great, I also went for Iñárritu, but in my case the vote was for Birdman.
