Which of these movies, each inspired by one specific musical artist, do you think combined music and film the most successfully?

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls036688793/
Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/WzPEDCoHVL0/

Several films have been created from classic albums, like Pink Floyd’s The Wall or The Who’s rock-opera Tommy.  There are also albums that are basically musical versions of film scripts, such as Prince’s Purple Rain or Curtis Mayfield’s Superfly. Musical artists, however, are rarely commissioned to provide an entire soundtrack’s worth of original material for a movie in which they shared no part in filming or writing — essentially creating a score of new songs that carry their weight independent of the film, as well. A small, elite group of pop artists  can claim such a distinction: Simon and Garfunkel composed music for 'The Graduate,' Cat Stevens did 'Harold and Maude', and Aimee Mann's music provided the soundtrack, and some of the inspiration, for 'Magnolia'. A few others are out there but these three are widely considered the best in film, music, and the synthesis of the two.

Aimee Mann from 'Magnolia' (with clips of the movie and you even get to hear Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Tom Cruise, and other stars of the film, sing along)

Simon & Garfunkel from 'The Graduate' (with clips from the movie)

Cat Stevens from 'Harold & Maude' (with clips from the movie and, yes, Harold and Maude singing)

Wouldn't "Saturday Night Fever" count as well?

I'm not absolutely sure it doesn't count, so I'll look into it, but I don't think so. I also don't think that my intro accurately depicts the situation with these movies and singer/songwriters because it was not just that these artists were commissioned; some of their songs, written and recorded before the films, also directly inspired the films.

My vote:
The Graduate (1967) - Simon & Garfunkel

Sadly, an extremely pompous commencement speaker at my younger daughter's college graduation has sullied my memory of 'The Graduate'.

Oh, that's so unfortunate. I've had something like that happen with the original, Russian version of 'Solaris.'
