Seventeen years into the 21st century and supporters of gay rights know that we still have a long way to go. But there are a few lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender performers who have broken through the hate into an area of acceptance and even admiration by the US public at large.

Which of these LGBT performers do you feel is most beloved by Americans?

Matt Bomer
Andy Cohen
Anderson Cooper
Laverne Cox
Ellen DeGeneres
Neil Patrick Harris
Jane Lynch
Rachel Maddow
Kate McKinnon
Jim Parsons
Zachary Quinto
Robin Roberts
RuPaul

I like Neil Patrick Harris the most because of Barney Stinson but I'd say Ellen DeGeneres is most beloved

Oh wow I honestly couldn't pick my favorite if I wanted to; there are so many! Good thing that's not what you ask; I vote for Ellen.

Do you think he's as famous as the others on the list? And that his sexual identity is known in the "straight world"?

Yes and yes. I'd never heard of RuPaul, and I didn't know about half your list's sexual identity, yet I know of WentWorth Miller and I remember the time he came out and broke many straight girls' hearts. This is clearly very subjective, but maybe think about how many people watch the Big Bang Theory and how many watch Prison Break? Or we could go all empirical and check show ratings or the StarMeter.

I would probably go with Kate McKinnonShe's hilarious!

Most of the reasons why I watch SNL every now and then is because of her spot-on impressions. My favorite one might be Justin Bieber!

I added the ones I felt belonged. I might have included McKellen and John if they were American.

I have a little suggestion.  You should add Alex Cooper's name to the list of names, because of the noteriety that she's now receiving because of her autobiography, "SAVING ALEX: When I Was Fifteen, I Told My Parents I Was Gay, And That's When My Nightmare Began", and because of the LIFETIME T.V. movie, "TRAPPED: THE ALEX COOPER STORY".  I know that she isn't a performer, but she is a real LGBTQ person who, IMHO, deserves to be mentioned, especially considering what she went through in her life.  Does anyone on here agree with me?
