It's about time! It's long overdue!
This picture shows the 13th Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) in the TARDIS of the 12th Doctor (Peter Capaldi). It is a set from Doctor Who.

This opinion is as valid as the others but the word "afraid" is too negative. It's not the change that might bother but the fact that it's a major upheaval in the history of the show.
I've never been a fan of these changes, female Doctor Who, black James Bond etc. seems like publicity stunts disguised as progressive moves if you ask me. But the day there'll be an unattractive fat and average-looking James Bond, that would be a real revolution.

I'm so modern you wouldn't believe it actually.., but to be honest, I'm kind of a purist when it comes to characters' physical/gender/ethnic canons', I would have reacted the same if one proposed a male version of Ellen Ripley or a Latin version of Superman.
An auteur like Miyazaki didn't need to feminize iconic male characters to create original, appealing and asskicking female heroines, this is why I'm discussing the sincerity behind these casting choices, and if the notions of 'marketing' and 'publicity' weren't also present in the brainstorm that lead to the decision.
Again, it's not against "Doctor Who", I never watched the show actually, but it's the whole trend that kind of bothers me. It wouldn't prevent me to watch a show or a film, it doesn't bother me to that point, so we're just talking about "bothering".
Now, should I have been afraid to expose my feelings so I wouldn't pass for a sexist (which i'm not)? Have you ever questioned the kind of attitude a rant like yours just encourages? the less we say, the better, is that right?
And you should delete your next post where you ask someone to explain to me, we're talking right now together, no need for an intermediary.
Good day!

Please keep your comments civil. We do not need flame wars on the GS IMDb Poll board.
ElM,
I understand your perspective of maintaining the integrity of characters. In the case of The Doctor, there have been hints about Time Lords changing gender dating back to when Lalla Ward played Romana.

What the heck is the matter with you, dude? Has the whole-wide world gone sexist around here?
Well, he's the one who started. I never patronize or label anyone as anything such as sexist, or racist, or homophobic without trying to clear what can be a misunderstanding.
I admit it, I am totally ignorant of the history of the show, of the show itself as a matter of fact, it was just my "mini-rant" against a phenomenon that has become in my opinion too trendy to be driven by pure and noble intentions.
Now, I'm able to contextualize the project, and I understand it's not as if we were talking about a female James Bond. By that I mean that it's something fans saw coming.

Now, I know from experience that we all have a 'button' one should never push, and it kind of biases our perceptions, not just you, everybody. If you're that allergic to sexism, obviously, you'll read my post as a stance against the female casting of Doctor Who. To get philosphical, there's always intention in perception.
I try to avoid these sensitive polls because I know anything about politics, religion, gender and race will lead to a heated discussion, one way or another, without having necessarily someone who's wrong and someone who's right. And this is why I personally suggest polls that are immune to controversy, at least i try.
Anyway, speaking for myself, i'm cool now.. I also had a tough day and maybe I let off some anger in my post..

And by the way, that last part in your post where you said that you "let off some anger in your post..."? You don't have anything to be sorry about there. You had every right to be upset. After all, I had no right to judge you without knowing anything about you. In fact, from what you said in your previous post about not knowing anything about politics, religion, race, gender, etc., I think you and I have something in common. I also avoid talking about stuff like that with anyone because not everyone shares the same viewpoints that I do, and it can lead to unpleasant debates, and that's precisely what Dan Dassow was trying to tell me to avoid when he posted me.
And so, dude, what do you say the two of us just bury the hatchet between us and forget this stinkin' mess ever happened, you dig? Wanna share a proverbial "Peace-Pipe"?

No problemo... of course, some subjects are hotter than others, and they're likely to cause passionate reactions that can sound like anger or hostility, it's not as if people have normal discussions where they can see each other and read the body languages. Sometimes, I wonder if that wasn't the main reason for IMDb shutting down the message boards, not that I approved the decision but you could tell many users, without being trolls, were getting their kicks by provoking people.
Neither you or I are in this category so all is well that ends well.

And BTW, you're not the only one who is miffed that the message boards on the IMDb website are shut down before I had a chance to use them. The reason I couldn't use boards is because my account on that website wasn't authenticated, and it couldn't be because I didn't have a cell-phone of my own to give the number from it to them so that they can send me a S.M.S. message, and that would authenticate my account and I can use the message boards. And I was told by the moderators of this community support forum that I can only talk about movies and T.V. shows and about polling my favorite episodes from shows and movies and things of that nature, and not about personal stuff or to chat with other people on the forum, like what you and I are doing right now.
Which reminds me, I think that I better stop typing and send this post to you right now before I get us both in hot water with the brasses for "personal chit-chat". So again, it was a pleasure talking with you, and I'm happy that we're able to let bygones be bygones, and I look forward to our next friendly debate. Until then...
PEACE OUT, DUDE!

Please understand that my viewpoint . I wasn't 't trying to be sexist. I agree a lot with Sdk ElMaruecan's viewpoint that a lot of this big brew ha-ha is being created for publicity and promotion. My stance is that this big thing about "The first Female Doctor" is not all that big of a deal if one paid attention to the show and remembered Romana and River Song as Female Time Lords. Also the Time lords' act of regeneration bares a striking resemblance to the act of reincarnation. And gender switching is a big piece of the philosophy or belief of reincarnation.
The trouble is that the linear thinking of the various degrees between love and hate in this poll did not allow the true opposite third option of that linear thinking which was "No Big Deal" which the knowledge of Romana and River Song allowed.
And, yes, I do a lot of polls on women because I like doing something different and sometimes I see things that I react too Understand I am a man.
And besides, that in this day and age, I truly think that this thing of having a female in traditional male roles in the media has lost a lot of it's edge, uniqueness and shock value. How many times have you seen a female pirate, truck driver, President, Vice President, Prime minister, Lawyer, Judge, police officer, detective, hit woman, doctor (medical this time), and surgeon in movies or on T.V. lately? A lot of times. I have, at least.
Update: Don't bother, I still had the email notice of the post in my email.

Mary Tamm and Lalla Ward*).

Techinally, River Song (played by Alex Kingston http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005094/ ) is a Time Lord too.
So it was just a matter of time before the Doctor became a female too.
*There is a point when the Dr. Doctor was shock to see that Romana regenerated herself to look like Princess Astra. Appearently the time lords can control the regeneration process to some extent. Obliviously an attempt to explain why they kept Lalla Ward and dumped Mary Tamm.
