Oscar winner Martin Landau has sadly passed at the age of 89. His career of over 175 titles began when he was accepted into Lee Strasberg's Actors Studio in 1955; out of 2,000 applicants that year only Landau and Steve McQueen were accepted.

Out of his many classic roles, for which will you remember Mr. Landau for?

Of course I remember him as Roland Hand, master of disguises on "Mission: Impossible", and his award-winning role as Bela Lugosi in "Ed Wood" will always be a classic.  But if you all log on to the Internet Movie Database website, and look up Martin's bio, you'll see that he had other great roles that aren't shown on that list.  For instance, he portrayed the elderly Joseph Bonanno in the 1994 T.V. movie "Bonanno: A Godfather's Story".  And besides "M.:I.", he also played Cdr. John Koenig in the sci-fi series "Space: 1999".  He was also in one of the "Gilligan's Island" T.V.-movies, where he portrayed a rival of the Howells, and he tried to get his claws on the castaways' island hotel in order to mine some kind of mineral he found on there.  And those are just a few of the many great roles he's done that I've mentioned.  Look up his bio on the database and see for yourself of what I'm talking about.

Dude. Do you think I don't look at IMDb when I'm making a list for IMDb?

I added Space 1999 and Bonnano.

Hi Digger,

Thank you for your feedback.

Jen is one of our most experienced poll creators with 445 live polls. She has been creating polls and using IMDb for well over ten years.

When we create polls, we need to be selective in the choices for that poll since polls are limited to 35. We also focus on major roles for established actors and roles that have images. Martin Landau has 177 acting credits; we cannot possibly use all of those credits in this poll.

My apologies to Jen, a.k.a. "yrnej".  It was an oversight on my part for not realizing that you use the I.M.D.b. site in order to make up your lists for IMDb.com community support.  I should have known better, and I'm deeply sorry for that.  I just only trying to be helpful, is all.  After all, I log on to that database almost every day to look the birthdays of celebrities and to keep track of the dates that they've died.  Anyways, I beg your forgiveness, okey-dokey?

Jen,

I am saddened by he passing of Martin Landau. I am somewhat annoyed that many of the classic characters he played do not have images. It's also rather annoying the most of the images to not crop well.

Unless you can find images for the characters without images, would you mind re-arranging the choices so that the characters with images are at the beginning of the poll.

I believe that this sentence is slightly ungrammatical, but I am not absolutely certain. Rubyfruit would know for certain.
Out of his many classic roles, for which will you remember Mr. Landau for?

Perhaps you should remove the final "for".

Dan's right. ('Good eye, Dan; I missed that.) Knowing Jen, I'm guessing it's a typo, and yes, there's no need for the final "for." "Out of his many classic roles, for which will you remember Mr. Landau?" is great.

Oh, thank you, Dan, for the really nice compliment, however undeserved. :)

Jen, I just realized that I'm posting on your thread, yet I referred to you in the third person, lol. 'Sorry about that.

Sad to see this. My first thought was his role as Abe in Tucker: The Man and His Dream.

I was sad, too, to hear of his passing. It is, however, really nice to see you back on the board, Simba! :)

I most remember Martin Landau as Rollin Hand in Mission: Impossible. He was my favorite character on one of my favorite shows.

His best role was as Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood.

Oh my gosh, Jen, you found photos for Frank Malone and Abe Petrovsky! I often have such a hard time finding images that IMDb will take. You are the master of images. How do you do it?

(By the way, he was so great as Frank Malone. I miss that series, especially for Anthony LaPaglia and Martin Landau.)

Google, google, google! Sometimes (often times) it takes a while but I try to do what I can. I also use Photoshop on the images when I can to make sure they are formatted the way IMDb prefers them. Though that's not always possible.

PS: I also miss Without a Trace but they had a good, long run. I liked everyone (except for Samantha - too much drama and in-office nookie) but my fave was Danny. Homina homina homina!

I wonder why I don't see them in syndication like other procedurals...Could use a break from all the CSI repeats!

Indeed - on all counts, except that Jack was my favorite. Danny surely was adorable, though, and he was my close second-fave. He and Jack had great chemistry, too, that  illustrated well a sweet friendship.

I also wonder why they're not in syndication -- for a short time, the small cable outfit, Ion, did run the show but that seemed to be short lived, unfortunately. I'm also surprised that the actor that portrayed Danny wasn't more enthusiastically scooped up by Hollywood after WaT. He's certainly gotten a lot of work but I wouldn't have been surprised if he had become bigger on the big screen. He still could, of course, or perhaps he wasn't interested.

He was on Bloodline for three seasons and have a five-episode arc on the Blacklist this year. I think there's a lot of actors who are on a series for three or four plus years and seem like they could do anything after that, then they just disappear.
