The following filmmakers pulled off the incredible feat of releasing two celebrated movies in the same year.

Which director made the best pair of films?

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls029703770

Note: Victor Fleming is not included as he didn't direct his 1939 movies in their entirety - he left The Wizard of Oz in the middle of filming and King Vidor took over, and he replaced George Cukor on the second half of filming Gone with the Wind

I don't think The Long Gray line is at the level of Mister Roberts.

Torpedo Squadron (Documentary short) in 1942 along with The Battle of Midway (Short documentary) (as Lt. Cmdr. John Ford U.S.N.R.)
.Notable as these played in Theaters during WWII for Morale purposes.
I know they are not movies. But they were not staged. He filmed actual war footage while on the front lines. Dodging bullets at the same time.

There is a lot more but one last.
The MOST notable is any 2 of the 18 Shorts made in 1895 by the Father of The Motion Picture!
Louis Lumière

I'm torn between two Hitchcock years. Both are great.

Ingmar Bergman and Jean-Luc Godard are also rather great examples.

Tried this in the 'Daily poll' days until I found out you could make 75% of the poll with Hitchcock and Ford only.

FYC:

Alfred Hitchcock: Rebecca and Foreign Correspondent (both BP nominees)
Alfred Hitchcock: The Wrong Man and The Man Who Knew Too Much
John Ford: Stagecoach and Young Mr. Lincoln
John Ford: The Grapes of Wrath and The Long Voyage Home (both BP nominees)
(in fact, just look at his page and you'll get the point:))
Akira Kurosawa: Throne of Blood and The Lower Depths
Herbert Ross: Julia and The Turning Point (both BP nominees)
Sam Peckinpah: Junior Bonner and The Getaway
Ingmar Bergman: Shame and The Hour of the Wolf
Woody Allen: Radio Days and September
Raoul Walsh: High Sierra and Strawberry Blonde

That sucks. I and another person searched and didn't find this one. Guess I'll delete it.
