System is defaulting to five digit instead of six digit postal code for Canada

I've been using postal code for location in IMDB for over two decades. Never had a problem before. This week, suddenly, even though I've entered 6 consecutive postal code digits, and the pull-down indicates CA, it keeps reverting to five digits, this is very annoying.

This brings to mind the second issue. The cell phone app remembers my postal code from visit to visit, it's permanent, whereas on the website, the postal code needed to be re-entered with every log-in, this is ridiculous.

However, now that even within a few minute session, the postal code reverting to 5 digits, and "not finding anything"... this is beyond ridiculous.

Hi there,
I apologize for the inconvenience. Are you using an iPhone or Android device?

Hi there,

Thanks for confirming.

Can you please confirm your local postal code which you're using when you experience this issue?

Additionally, when you experience this issue on the IMDb desktop site, can you confirm if you're logged into your IMDb account when you visit the Showtimes page each time?

Thanks in advance.

It's happening not only with my home postal code, but ALL postal codes I use, as I am frequently on the road and check out theatres nearby. Whether Y1A5Y5 or V6X1A1 or any other, it will not keep it, always truncates the last digit.
And as I've said, I've been using IMDB since the 90s! Now suddenly in past two weeks this occurs??
All six digits are still in the auto-form data, so I can just click that, but it's a real annoyance, because it prevents location from registering on other IMDB features where entering the postal code is not possible.
And yes I am logged in, I am always logged in, or I aim to be. In the past couple of years, the login time has much shortened, I used to be permanently logged in (like I am with my Facebook account), but now IMDB frequently forces me re-login, another annoyance :(

Thanks for your reply!

It seems you are omitting the space between the two 3-digit strings in CA zip codes. It worked for me adding the space inbetween:

I'd recommend including the space, and reloading the page if you are still having trouble. It may also help to try a new browser, in case your browser settings are affecting the way our site functions.Let us know if you are still having trouble!

Sorry for the extreme late reply, I've not been back to the site since then.

No, the space does not help, the entry capacity STOPS at 5th character when I use the space. This stopping at 5th character upon entry is the reason I switched to entering all 6 characters without space, then at least I can reach the showtimes appropriate to my location ONCE.

See, this is what happens when I enter Y1A 5Y5, it cuts off at Y, and says not recognised location. At least when I enter the characters consecutively, I get a location!!!!
I'd have loved to provide you the screen capture of this, but I keep getting a "internal server error"

When I enter Y1A5Y5, click GO, I get the correct Whitehorse listing, ONCE, if I hit Showtimes again, the default selection is Y1A5Y unless I click to the pull-down menu to select the Y1A5Y5 from the remembered code.

When I enter Y1A 5Y5, click GO, it bounces back "no city" cuz what now appears in the box is    Y1A 5Y (missing the last digit).

I still can not attack the screen shot due to "Internal Server Error".

Hi there,

Thanks for the additional information! I've reproduced the issue myself with the same postal code, and have reported this to our engineering team.

We'll update this thread once we receive further information.

Thanks in advance for your patience.
