The "Rebus" Conundrum

Hullo,
There is something of a confusing situation going on with "Rebus" (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0867015/) that I could use some help with.

First of all, these are two different TV shows, both called "Rebus", produced by STV, and based on the same books, but entirely different. The first one, starring John Hannah, was aired primarily in 2000 and 2001 with episode "Mortal Causes" held back until 2004. It is listed on that page as series one. The second show, starring Ken Stott, had a completely different cast (bar one actor) and production crew and also completely rebooted the series (starting with Inspector Rebus and his partner meeting for the first time, etc.). It aired in 2006 and 2007, had three seasons, and is listed as season two, three, and four on the page.

Thus, there are two issues present on the page:

1) The two shows should be listed separately.
2) If the two shows are to be merged (which seems illogical) then the title should read "Rebus" (2000 - 2007) and not "Rebus" (2000 - 2004) which relates only to the first series, as it does now.

Thanks for your help,
Mateja

Hi Mateja -

Based on your description of the situation, these should be listed as separate titles as the re-boot contains significant changes from the original series, and if the re-boot version was advertised as a separate series form the original.  To split the titles, please first submit a new series title for "Rebus (2006)", once this new series title is listed you can submit the episode titles for this series.

Once the new series is listed with the applicable episodes, you can them merge the incorrect episodes from the old original series to the new series.  For detailed instructions on how to merge titles, please see the following guide: https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/how-can-i-merge-two-titles/GAL233TVTCPMLVDK?ref_=h...#

I hope this information helps. let us know if you encounter any problems or have further questions.  Cheers!

Thanks for your prompt answer, Michelle. I was wondering if there is any way to simply split the title, rather than do all that legwork?

Best wishes,
Mateja

Hi Mateja -

Unfortunately, there is no simpler way to split the titles, as this is the only way it can be done.  So basically the new series title will need to be added, once listed all the episode titles can be added, and you can then merge the relevant episodes from the earlier series to the correct newer episodes.  Does that make sense?  If not, let us know!
