Raised in a couple of threads on IMDB, examples are lifted from there:

If you compare the results here you'll see a massive discrepancy (the 93 will be films with hardcore sex, which aren't porn - like Caligula):
http://imdb.com/search/title?keywords... (93)
http://imdb.com/keyword/hardcore/ (56,783)

Same happens with people searches:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001000/
http://www.imdb.com/search/title?role...

Unfortunately, there is no way to actually toggle the porn filter from the advanced search page, so you are left a little stuck.

Thanks for reporting this Emperor - I've raised a request to get the functionality turned back on (no. 0023077731).

Kind regards,
Tom

Cheers.

Will there be a way to toggle these results too from the advanced search page? I have found such toggling useful for working out what is and isn't porn, so it doesn't mess my lists up (any more):

Tom, just checking in on developments as further changes to point more links to advanced search have made the need for a fix more pressing. See:

I was trying to find the oldest adult films in the IMDb and I bumped into this problem. I understand why some people wants to avoid porn. But this problem should be fixed for everyone else who see it as another valid genre that is part of movie history. I see this has been addressed since over a year so I don't understand why it hasn't been fixed.

Ditto.  Was trying to tag the adult 3-dimensional films and kept tripping over implicit filtering.

Another problem with adult films being unable to appear in advanced searchs are keywords. If you search fro keywords you find that there are 66227 films labelled as hardcore, and 80602 with the sex keyword. However when you click on the keyword to search for those films you only get to see 92 film with the hardcore keyword and 13230 with the sex keyword.

So in this case the inability to enable adult films in advanced searchs makes some keywords quite useless. In the case of people like me, working on going through keywords to merge identical entries or delte keywords that should not be in the database, then the inability to see adult films in advanced search makes the work useless.

For example I just went to 38 titles deleting the keywrod comedia, which should not exist first because its a spanish word that gives no information to half the users, and second because it is a genre (comedy) and thet information does not belong to the keywords. However there is a single adult film that has comedia as a keyword, and there is absolutely no way I can identify it to make the correction. Therefore, any mistake made in the keywrods (and potentially in any other section on adult films) will be there forever as there is no way of finding adult films information.

It's been two years since this annoying problem has been reported and "in progress" will it be solved anytime?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Adult films/titles omitted from certification searches..

Adult films/titles omitted from certification searches. Is it possibly to rectify this? I know that not everybody wants to see adults films listed, but perhaps an opt in/opt out setting such as that given with general searches in the movie title search bar.
