The wrong character name and episode is listed under a correct TV show credit

Recently I was told to provide a screen grab of my son's 'Glee' credit so he could be listed on IMDB accordingly.  I made a big mistake and sent a screen grab of his 'Modern Family' appearance instead, so now he's got TWO exact entries (character and episode name) under both 'Glee' and 'Modern Family'. I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone to correct this, so his IMDB profile just looks goofy and unprofessional.  Would someone please contact me ASAP?  Thank you!

I'm guessing that your son is Jarrod Bailey, who is currently listed as playing Alex's Knight on both an episode of "Glee" and an episode of "Modern Family." I'm assuming that the Glee character name is the one in error.

Have you tried doing a straightforward correction of the error? Assuming that his Glee character is the one which is listed incorrectly, but he did appear on the Glee episode "Shooting Star," you would go to the page for that episode (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2403599/). Click "Edit page".

On the next screen, on the Cast line, select "Correct/Delete". Scroll down and click "Continue".

On the next screen, select "Correct" in the drop-down box to the left of your son's name, and then click "Check these updates".

On the next screen, you will be able to edit your son's character name. Remove the incorrect character name from his character box and put in his correct character name for this Glee episode. Also, if you know what his order number in the credits of that episode was, insert that number in the order box. Check the box marked "provide an explanation to assist in processing this change". Click "Check these updates".

On the next screen, there will be a box in which to enter an explanation. Enter something like "Correcting character name. The previously listed character name 'Alex's Knight' was a character that Jarrod Bailey played on an episode of 'Modern Family' and had been entered by mistake. See https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/the_wrong_character_name_and_episode_is_listed_under_a_correct_tv_show_credit for details." You can then click "Submit these updates".

(Including a link to this discussion is to show good faith and that you are correcting your own error.)

If you do have a screen shot of your son's name listed in the Glee credits, you can submit it using the data verification system. To submit images to use as evidence for your submissions, use the data verification system (http://www.imdb.com/helpdesk/data_verification). See http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?additionalverification for an explanation.

If there is anything that would make this situation more complicated (like if he is listed not only with the wrong character name for Glee, but also in the wrong episode), please post all the details and someone here will advise you as to the best way to fix the error.

Good luck!

You have been tremendously thorough and easy to understand for your solution to this problem - thank you so much!!!  I think that I've been successful for the most part, but when I tried to use the the link for the data verification system, it is required that I provide a URL1 link to the screen grab photo.  I have absolutely no idea how to do this. I can do copy/paste, but that won't work in this case. If someone could send me an email, then I could attach the photo to the email reply. If you know of another way, then I would love to know how to do it so this whole issue can be resolved...

Post the photo up to a free photo sharing site such as Flickr or PhotoBucket, etc., then you copy the URL to that page and provide it on the submission form. Or, alternately, you can post it up here on this thread and give them this URL ...I think either would work for you.

Thank you very much for your suggestions! I chose to use the tinypic link suggested by Emperor and it was so easy that I didn't even mess it up, I think. I do appreciate you taking the time to provide a response :-)

Tinypic is the most useful for this kind of thing, as you don't need an account:

Tinypic worked perfectly! And it was easy enough for the technically challenged like me LOL. I think that being able to provide the URL for the data verification dept. on imdb was the missing piece to the puzzle and thanks to you, I was able to fill in the blank. I really appreciate your time and your help!!! Thank you!

Today I checked to see if the corrections had been made to my son's
account and sadly, it's still the same - incorrect. How long does making
a correction like this usually take?

Melanie: This would be a Filmography: Cast (TV) correction, and according to the Processing Times page at http://www.imdb.com/czone/times that department is backlogged to December 2, which would have been before you submitted the correction.

Keep an eye on the Processing Times page to see how progress is being made in that department, but allow an extra day of consideration. That is, if you submitted on December 4, don't worry about whether your correction got processed until the backlog has been cleared through December 5.

Thanks so much for your quick response.  I appreciate the timing information and I'll just keep checking his name on imdb. Thanks again.
