The Oogieloves film has 1,000's of 10 votes cast by fake users, ranking it higher on the 'Highest Rated Feature Films Released In 2012 With At Least 1,000 Votes' than critically acclaimed films like Frances Ha, Zero Dark Thirty, Cloud Atlas, and Lincoln. Not to mention there are dozens of fake reviews, praising the film, each with roughly 60 people saying the review was useful. What can be done about this? The film was ranked in the 2's not more than a few months ago. This is severely damaging to IMDb's credibility.

This is one of more flagrant examples of vote stuffing on IMDb.

If you look at the ratings page for The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure (2012) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1520498/ratings), you should notice that IMDb already discounts the majority of the 10 votes in the weighted average vote of 7.6 / 10.

You should also notice that the weighted averages by demographic group are much lower.

Yes that looks bad - nearly 12k of votes (90% of them 10 star) and only 1.5k votes with attached demographics.

Also the bulk of the 10 star reviews are from people with no other IMDB activity.

The ballot-stuffing is so bad, makes the film-makers look bad. Then again, even with the weighting, they've probably managed to sucker a few people into paying to see it, so it might work out in the short run.
