With the lists feature, you certainly could create one. As to the search function, to include/exclude those you've seen, the site uses your rated titles. So to the site it'd be redundant. But, it's been suggested...and I agree, an easily used, click the button to add, feature would be great!

The site also considers the check-in function as fulfilling this...

I have watched movie lists on my computer that go back to 2005, and unfortunately I didn't think to start rating the films until much later.

I'd like to be able to mark them on IMDB as 'watched' without having to rate them - I'd have to think back 7+ years to recall how I felt about the film, and assign it a generic 6-7 if I liked it, and lower if I didn't.

EDIT: I saw mention that there is a 'check-in' feature, that seems tied to social media (which I don't use at all.) I would like to see a watched button or list that isn't tied to the sharing page.

Good point. I've won't even admit how far back my list of watched, but not rated films go back...but, I was probably wearing bell-bottoms and a "keep on truckin'" t-shirt...

That reminds me, I have yet to rate Patton and Papillon...both of which I was WAY too young to have watched, I should add!

bluesmanSF,
You are not alone. I've probably only rated onlyt ten to fifteen percent of the films I've seen. I saw a lot of films prior to rec.arts.films and IMDb existed. I refuse to rate a film unless I've seen all of the film including the credits and have seen it recently.

I'ge tried rating some from way back, but same thing...can't remember enough and have noticed that some of my criteria can't be recalled enough to come up with a score. So my watchlist ends up with titles I'ge seen...just not in this decade. It leaves me with, pretty much, that same personal policy!

It must be great growing up with IMDB - I have probably seen 5-10 thousand of films that I can't even remember unless I watch them again to check (a tonne of westerns and war films) and I have a stack of DVDs to do a solid rewatch to get the ratings right (like Kurosawa). Although some might think it a little bit anal ;)

I was about to ask for the same feature, had i not found your request.I was thinking about a watch list and watched list, and a simple way to move films from the first one to the second one (i use the Imdb app on my iphone a lot, so i'm mostly thinking about that, which is sometimes more tricky to use than the website)
