We all know the common line, "It wasn't as good as the book." Often, with little thought, I would agree. Years ago I read The Bridges of Madison County, grumbling to myself 'writing sucks . . . .overwritten, sappy, too many modifiers, etc. etc'
Why not abandon it? I was hooked by the storyline and, being an avid reader and English teacher, I felt compelled to read through to unveil the resolution. And for that, I am not sorry.
The movie did a beautiful job depicting love, identity, longing, and angst between the two characters, portrayed through convincing 1940s/50s landscape.
