Dear IMDb

Regarding User-lists; a tag stating 'This thread is closed' appears beneath the comments section and prohibits other users from commenting on that particular list. For example: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls076503982/ . Could an Employee or Official Rep please offer an explanation or information regarding this issue? It will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for the problem report. We have opened a ticket with the appropriate team.

It appears that more recent lists are still okay, but comments on lists created 2015 or earlier are all closed (if you have any counter examples, please let us know here)

Hi Col  Needham

You are correct, recent lists are okay. A most recent example, according to my lists, of closed comments, is a list created 27 Jan 2016: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls033705415/. It appears lists created a year or more ago have had their threads closed.

Yes, also five or six months ago Facebook decided to delete all replies to comments that were... old (older than one or two- years, I can't figure out).

Hi C.C. Hunter

According to Col Needham, there is a bug in the system that needs fixing & IMDb has not closed discussions. Also, a ticket has been opened with the appropriate team. I am sure things will be up and running in the near future?

How long does it usually take to fix a 'bug'?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Signed in thru Facebook & chose all allowed so why do my IMDB lists show 'This th....

Just noticed while reviewing my 'Released... YAY!' list http://www.imdb.com/list/ls058186597/ of wonderful films finally available on dvd and discovered that the Facebook comments thread states This thread is closed and underneath it shows Facebook Comments Plugin but no longer my Facebook user ID to allow comments... and I do not have anything turned off at IMDB or Facebook.
I next checked my list ... "The true gems of the movie... my favorite character actors & actors that play great characters!" http://www.imdb.com/list/ls059704630/ that has existing older comments and it too states This thread is closed...   guessing I will find this happening on all my lists... why?
Above that area on page it shows a link to use to edit your list to turn off comments, but I purposely chose to have my lists to accept comments, and the on feature should still be 'on'.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you!!

I was wondering this too. What is the purpose of closing threads? So what if the list is older than a year? It's still getting hits, so why close it?

Hi Margaret Jones.

I agree. To add to this; many users are constantly updating their lists and as such create the means and topics for further comment or discussion. Hopefully IMDb re-evaluates this decision?

Hi.
My list has gotten over 200000 views and now this has occurred, 'closed thread'. Quite frustrating seeing the weekly views drop now that people can't interact with the list and ask questions.

this is the link.
http://www.imdb.com/list/ls058641508/

Please fix this bug soon.

From your loyal member.
Michael.

Just received this message from Imdb help desk.

List comments are through Facebook and is not a feature that we are able to control from IMDb.

This seems to be related to this: Automatically close threads after 1 year.

Moderation

You can change the default visibility for new comments. For example, you might want to approve all new comments. If a comment isn't approved, the comment will only be visible to the commenter until a moderator approves the comment.

There are three different moderation modes:

Public

All comments will be public. They'll also appear in the Review tab.

Closed

All comments will be hidden.

Can you please supply a link to find this page you show? I searched under the Help section of Facebook using the word 'Moderation' and it states nothing found, so searched at IMDB and it only shows a message about the former message boards being closed... so where ddi you find the page you show here, and thank you for your time & help!

Hi C.C. Hunter

If one goes to the official IMDb facebook page, post threads remain active from years back. I think it is reasonable to conclude that facebook did not take the initiative to close list threads but was instead initiated by IMDb moderators.
Unfortunately, we have had no further official response since Col Needham stated: "To be clear, this is a bug. We have not closed these discussions." - And therefor left to draw our own conclusions.

Hopefully, I am proven wrong and IMDb will set the record straight on this issue?

minalex ... thank you for the link, much appreciated, but it just sends me to a page with a bunch of coding info that guess I'm suppose to know what do with... does anyone know a simple way to use it/apply it to get the picture shown to show up to choose to turn on?
I know if I right click I see 'Inspect Element' etc, but if I'm suppose to know how to copy the coding etc from the Facebook page and then add to my IMDB list pages myself guess I'll never have the Leave Comments option again and my threads will remain closed because that's all WAY beyond my grasp of how a computer works :0

My point was that the IMDB/Facebook comments plugin moderator/specialist will easily fix this (easily means in a few minutes and certainly less than an hour) as soon as he starts working on it. I wasn't suggesting we should become progammers. I also doubt IMDB users can have access to this moderation.

Thanks, I thought it must be yet another computer thing everyone knows how to do but me :) But still, not hopeful after reading IMDB member Michael Ballard added his message before that IMDB replied to his report of trouble with "List comments are through Facebook and is not a feature that we are able to control from IMDb."

Well as the above link shows Michael is not exactly right. Every administrator of a website (IMDB in our case) can insert in his code this Facebook comments plugin. For instance IMDB (if they wanted) could insert one similar option in every title or name page (now that message boards are gone). Here's another example:

My previous comment showed that automatic closing of comment threads after a period (e.g. a year) is one of the (not so many) parameters the web developer can set. So, it is activated now, because some IMDB moderator mistakenly changed the settings or because of a "bug" (an unclear interaction within the whole code).

Guys, we're just trying to help, not simply criticise you. On the contrary, I would say, that except for the 3-4 people here (who happen to be the main IMDB list-makers) nobody else cares.
