Recently an English language Top 250 was created. I wondered why the ranking of the films on here is different to on the main Top 250. For example, Brief Encounter if at #154 but isn't rated high enough to even be on the main Top 250. Jaws is ranked lower at #190 but is on the main Top 250 at #222. So why do some films rank above others on one list, whilst ranking below them on the other list? I think the same formula should be used on both lists for the sake of consistency.

Hi Aaron,

The disparity that you are encountering between the two lists and titles on them is because the main Top 250 also includes titles which are not English language specific and pulls from the entire database while the English Language Top 250 only pulls from English Language specific titles in the database.

Best,
Kurt.

Sorry, but that isn't the point I was making. Perhaps another example will make things clearer: on the English language Top 250, City Lights ranks above Saving Private Ryan, Interstellar, Casablanca, and American History X. Yet on the main Top 250, it ranks below all of those titles. I understand that the films will have a different rank on each list - my question is regarding the order of those films? Thanks in advance.
