Hello Everybody,
I've been looking the top 250 list and I'm not very comfortable seeing movies of year 2012 on it. I believe that movies need, besides qualifications, some time to settle in the taste of the public.
Even though I like some films on the list like Django unchained or The hobbit I think they are there only because of a fanaticism and not because they are or will be two of the best 250 best movies ever.
I would like some filtering that prevents movies from the last 5 years to be on the list.
What are your thoughts about it?

How about twelve months after home video release dates?
I would suggest one year after theater release dates, but that is too soon.

Maybe 5 Years is too long, Say Yes,your time gap seems plausible also.

Also, in another forum BluesmanSF comented the following:
" While your suggestion helps real movie buffs, most of the users look more short term and might want to see how a new film is measuring up to the "classics," though, as you point out, such a thing lacks accuracy (but, of course, ratings are always that way, to some extent). I think there'd be a lot of confusion where those films are if held off for so long of a time."
Although he has a point I still think some change is due.

The Top 250 is rather a crude measure.

You can construct your own, bespoke, list through the search:
