Why is there a 10-line minimum requirement to post reviews?

I just signed up to post a brief review
When I submitted it said there wasn't enough lines
I'm not a film luvvie who says in a thousand words what can be said in a couple
Thank you to myself, my wife, my cat, my ego for completely wasting ten minutes of my life
Load of crap!!!

Hi Andrew -

We do impose a 10-line minimum length requirement on user comments, we do this to encourage users to be creative and explain why they liked or disliked a film rather than simply post very short, one-paragraph comments, which tend to be repetitive and are not really useful to the majority of our readers.

I understand that a 10-line length may seem arbitrary, but based on our experience and tests, it sets an adequate threshold without being excessively strict/verbose.

Based on what I've seen on other sites, that's totally accurate. Short ones are not helpful being pretty vague and totally repetitive.

I do wish It wasn't 10 lines, I love movies and I love to review them but I cant write a report, I cant seem to think of enough words to take up 10 lines. I think 5 lines would be better. I always post my star rating and occasionally on a movie I really love I would like to post my review, however I can understand the logic behind it as so many ppl are trolls and waste ppls time with useless comments.

I did. Especially when I was told to pad out my review without padding it out.

Seriously, I quote: "Your review does not contain enough lines - the minimum length for reviews is 10 lines of text. Please see the guidelines. Attempts to pad the comment with junk words can result in your account being blocked from future submissions."

I split a paragraph,

and - bam!

Ten lines.

Perhaps a minimum word count would be a better idea?

Gimme a break - 100 words (which is much less than 10 lines) is more than adequate for a decent film review (we're talking 90 mins here). Get real. Go ahead & kick me off for not being an obnoxious windbag. (BTW, your storyline is 13 whole words for the film I wanted to review, & your plot summary is a whopping 24). Oh, and writing concisely used to be considered a skill - ever heard of a short story? Some people still win awards for 'em, you know...
